We really just don’t have enough room here so don’t judge, ok? 🙂
Vince wanted to pick the purple dead nettle yesterday so he could cut the grass but I told him I didn’t want to pick it until I could put it in the freeze dryer and I had just put the horehound in the freeze dryer.
Vince: Can’t we use the dehydrators?
Me: Yes! If you clean them out!
Vince: I can do that.
He had not looked inside them.
Every year, when I’m finished using the dehydrators, we put them in heavy duty trash bags, tape them up really good and put them in the shop. Last year, when I was done using them, I said “Vince, can you get the dehydrators ready to store and take them to the shop?” It never happened. A couple of times I thought about reminding him but I’d forget and it just never happened.
I don’t think he was too happy when he realized there were two dehydrators that looked like this. He took them both completely apart, cleaned and sanitized them and they’re ready for a load of purple dead nettle.
The last time I brought them to the porch from the shop, when I took one out of the plastic bag, there was a mouse in it! Alive! Can you imagine if I was walking, carrying that dehydrator and that mouse came out or ran down my leg. Oh, my . . just thinking about it makes me want to scream.
It rained a lot last night. I haven’t been out to check the purple dead nettle. If it’s ok, and not all beat down, I’ll cut it and get it dehydrating.

Looks like a bunch of mud dauber nests.

That’s what it is.

We consider purple dead nettle a weed here. For what do you use it?
Judy Laquidara says
You need to google it. I’m just learning and get all mixed up so I don’t want to be giving advice. I’ll look it up when I pick it and freeze dry it and do a blog post about it.

That made me laugh. Are you making tea from the nettle, or medical infusions, or what?
