I am not superstitious . . I don’t think. Today, with everything going on – virus, stock market, Chad’s on vacation and having issues with his car . . I’m kinda waiting to see what happens.
We aren’t going anywhere because we’re “cocooning”, or, trying to hide from the virus. I think we’ll have chicken sandwiches for dinner so I don’t have much cooking today.
We could have storms today and tomorrow. I’m not too worried about them but we’re not going to do any planting til after the storms.
I wouldn’t mind if it rains all day and I can stay in and knit but I don’t think that’s in the forecast.
On the chicken front, they are finally laying a little better. Yesterday I got 11 eggs . . the most I’ve gotten in one day since probably about July. Some days, we’ve had 1 egg, or maybe 2 eggs and weren’t getting enough for our own needs. About two weeks ago, they picked up a little and I started getting 5 or 6 eggs, then 7, and 11 yesterday . . I was thrilled!
The freeze dryer was supposed to be done at 5 this morning. I haven’t even been to check it yet . . guess I’ll go do that now.

Stay Home And Sew!! That’s what I read on Facebook yesterday. You have plenty to keep you busy, so at least you won’t get bored!! 🙂 Poor hubby was on the phone half the day yesterday because of cancellations. We had an 8-day trip scheduled for us to leave this morning, but now it’s down to 3 days. Heading to Delaware, where the state’s governor just declared a state of emergency yesterday afternoon, AFTER hubby had called to be sure the banquet we’re scheduled to attend was still to be held. I’m almost hoping we get a call on our way there today, so we can turn around and come home. I have plenty to do, and can’t get much of it done if we’re on the road. If nothing else, we’ll stop to visit my hubby’s cousin. I think at this point I’d rather stay home….

Any hints how to get chickens to lay? a friend of mine got 3 or 4 a few months ago. Only 1 is laying a few eggs/week
Judy Laquidara says
Age is definitely a factor. Some hens will lay longer than others. Some hybrid breeds are only good layers for a couple of years. Shorter days, as well as colder temps (as well as extreme heat) can affect laying. My hens are just now starting to lay again. We had not even been getting enough eggs for our own needs.

Are you going to get some more checks this year when they show up at the store? I can’t remember your current “supply”, but I think you have plenty of housing.
BTW, how are the mushrooms coming along? Any pictures to share?
Judy Laquidara says
If I have a hen go broody while there are chicks in the stores, I’ll get some and slip them under her so she can raise them but if no hen goes broody, no baby chicks.
The mushrooms have been neglected. They need lots of water here and we just haven’t done it so . . no activity at all.

Yes, stay home! Today, I talked to someone who knows you. Mark Caraher from APQS.
Judy Laquidara says
Yes! I haven’t had any contact with the APQS guys in years but Mark is a really good guy. All the APQS folks seem to be good people.
