February has come and gone! How did you do with your challenges? Please leave a comment and let us all know what you’ve done.
Color Challenge:
First off – the March color is yellow. Convenient – I’m working on a yellow project and that is totally coincidental.
The February color was orange and I made some good progress on my orange socks.
Gift Giving Challenge:
There was something I did close to the beginning of the month and now I can’t remember what it was. Also, I made a big batch of pesto from some of the basil in the greenhouse and took a jar full to a friend who loves pesto.
Read a Book:
I’ve read several books. I an’t remember if I read “A Novel Way to Die” in February or January. I’ve also read Stronger Together, Weaker Apart by Tony Evans.
Learn Something New:
I’m really happy about this because Vince and I are doing it together. We’re learning about herbs and medicinal plants. We’ve bought several books and watch videos together and have gone off searching for weeds that can be used as different medicines. I’m still working on my American Sign Language but that’s something I want to learn with Addie so I don’t want to get too far ahead but she’s probably a much faster learner than I am.
I hope at least some of y’all are playing along with me.

My February Orange challenge went great….I had much more orange fabric than I thought and pieced quite a few tops. you can see them on my blog…. http://brunerwoman.blogspot.com/2020/02/february-was-orange-month.html

Yellow for my color for February because my charity quilt had big yellow flowers on it. I have nothing orange to work on so March is finishing Bonnie Hunter’s 2020 mystery quilt. Patrick Taylor has written a series of books about a fictitious Dr. O’Reilly in Ireland that I enjoy. A Woman of No Importance, An Untold Story of an American Spy during WWII by Sonia Purnell was really good. My niece came to visit me during her Spring Break from college. She had never seen a ballet, so I took her to see Sleeping Beauty at the Houston Ballet. She really enjoyed it. My daughter, who works at the ballet was there to explain things she didn’t understand. I also took her with me to early vote. The judge let her go in and stand right next to me so I could explain how voting in a primary works. She gets to vote for the first time this November. Last, I know learned something new in February, I just can’t remember what it was! Love this challenge, makes me think of what I need to accomplish during the month. A friend and I also decided to visit at least one historic home in Texas a month. We went to the McFadden-Ward House in Beaumont this month. Family owned the property where Spindletop oil well was drilled.

That’s great to visit historic places once a month. I think I have a new idea for next year’s challenge! 🙂
I remember something about Spindletop. Was there a decorative oil rig somewhere near the interstate at one time? A Spindletop truck stop? Why do I remember that??
Claudia Duke says
Yes, both out on Interstate 10.

Hi Judy! I have been working on (at least keeping them in mind) the challenges you brought up for 2020. I don’t think I’ve posted any of them, so here we go!
January, the color was RED and that’s always an easy one for me. I am making quilt blocks from the Moda Blockheads #3 Sew Along. Each Wednesday another block is released (and it’s free). My colors are red, white, black/red/white paisley and white on white. For the GIFT portion of the challenge, I am involved in a Pay It Forward challenge and sent a gift to a woman who agreed to pay it forward, too. She received a pair of fingerless gloves and a fleece wrap/cape. I can incorporate LEARNING in the gift portion, as I had never made fingerless gloves before! I didn’t READ book in January.
February, your color was ORANGE. I don’t use a lot of orange, but I made baby bibs for a shower gift and used orange in those. GIFT was 10 bibs and burp cloths for this shower…they were fun and very appreciated. I READ a book titled The Shack by William Paul Young. If you haven’t read it, I would highly recommend it. I felt it was incredible. What I LEARNED, well, I learned a little more about my embroidery machine and software by doing the bibs. My machine wasn’t being totally cooperative!

-Helen

Let me try this again. My Orange February had a lot of things pieced. They are on my blog. http://brunerwoman.blogspot.com/2020/02/february-was-orange-month.html

I am impressed. REALLY impressed!

I knit two orange hats for my daughter to wear while taking wildlife photos during hunting season: a Wurm hat and a slouchy stockinette hat. The new things I learned, for another project, are a “mirrored” version of the KFB increase, and how to cable cast on in purl. This cast on looks much better than the usual knit version when you’re casting on at the end of a row in garter stitch. I’m reading mostly knitting or quilting books, including Kate Davies’ new book Warm Hands. This is fun!

I’m playing along. I’m good at the gift giving and the reading. I’ve not been as great at some of the other things.

Yellow could work for me! I did red in February instead of orange. I have a baby quilt mostly made, and it’s from a pattern I haven’t tried before – a great big heart. I read a ton of books – or at least a dozen, including the Tidewater trilogy and the Rock Harbor … quintilogy? Anyway, there were 5 of them. All by your favorite new author that you made me get from the library. LOL Does buying my son a car he has to fix count as a gift? =) Or stockpiling a few things toward Christmas boxes? Miss R and I are learning to make perfume oil mixes. That’s been fun so far … and starting to get expensive! LOL
Joyce says
I’m not really playing, but I did read 10 books…(I read fast, and I read often.) My goal is always to read 100 books a year. Last year I made my goal + some. (A lot of books on my kindle are not very long, but hey, they count.) 🙂 I will be doing some yellow in March, though.

Did you know the minister’s wife at the Methodist Church by the high school teaches sign language? Pilar took some classes from her. But Pilar is going to school right now (12 weeks) and isn’t doing it. If Bethany’s sister moves here she will teach us all! She is wonderful at it! I would love to learn also.

Hey, cool…I finished up my orange stained glass scrap quilt blocks last month… And am almost done with my yellow ones! Totally coincidental but I’ll take it.
