Just before dark I walked over to the sewing room to wind a skein of yarn. Cat came running up to me so fast that she kinda scared me. I will always respect her feral-ness, which probably means I don’t trust her. If she wants to be petted, she has to walk up to me. I never reach out to her unless I’m sure that’s what she’s wanting. After about 24 months (since Vince has retired) of Cat totally ignoring me, and hissing at me if I look at her too long, she came running up to me to be petted. I reached down and rubbed under her ears. She let me pet her for probably a couple of minutes. I would stand there as long as she was willing. Then she hopped up on her tree Vince built for her. She wanted me to feed her! Vince has been giving her more food at night because she begs but she eats just a little, then she gets up on my car and waits for her friend who shows up and eats the rest of it. If I just open the house door, that extra cat goes running off so Vince said he’s going to stop giving Cat more food at night. She was using me! She only wanted food and she thought being nice to me might get her food. I told her no . . go find a mouse!
Then when I came out of the sewing room, she was sitting under her light . . wanting me to plug it in. It’s going to only get down to the low 40’s tonight but because (1) I want her to love me and (2) she let me pet her, I turned the light on for her and that’s where she’s parked.
I wonder if the other cat came looking for food. I hope the other cat isn’t a bully and is mean to Cat if there’s no food. If it were up to me, I’d feed the other cat too but we just don’t need any more critter responsibility.
