In a Fair Isle group on Facebook, someone showed a photo of a sweater they had just finished and I fell in love. She said she got the pattern out of Mary Jane Mucklestone’s Fair Isle Style book.
I can’t remember the last time I made a pattern from anything other than an electronic copy using Knit Companion. I debated with myself for about 5 minutes – that’s how much I loved the sweater – about whether I wanted to make sweater from a book, without the electronic version but sometimes you have to just do what you have to do.
There’s a KAL at EST this year – maybe the fourth quarter, to knit something from a book. It could be a pattern that’s in a book but there’s also an electronic copy and that’s what I planned to do but I may do this one because . . well, I love it!

I don’t know if you can do this, but the book comes in a kindle addition…..can you then transfer the pattern to knitting companion.
Judy Laquidara says
I don’t know if you can but it would probably be easier to copy it and convert it to a pdf. Some of the KC features just don’t work on those kinds of workarounds though.

Have you ever scanned something printed and changed it to a pdf to open in Knit Companion? Believe it or not I use knit companion for cross stitch. If its a printed pattern, I scan it change it to a pdf – if you don’t know how just ask , then upload the pdf into dropbox, then on knit companion on my kindle fire i can open the pdf, create a project and there’s my cross stitch chart, much easier to read the chart when it’s made bigger.
Judy Laquidara says
Yes, I’ve done that but the main features of KC don’t work so well with those types of charts. I will try it, just in case but thankfully, this pattern isn’t real complicated.
Susan Nixon says
Is it the cover sweater you liked? You already owned the book?
Judy Laquidara says
Yes, the cover photo is the sweater I want to make some day. Didn’t already have the book but found a used copy online.

Love the colors!
