There’s a colorwork sweater swimming through my head. It’s a combination of a couple of sweater patterns I have. I had pretty much decided on this color combination.

That is Harrisville’s Shetland, which is fingering weight yarn. The main part of the sweater would be the gray and the others would be the color of the design.
I wanted to use sport weight yarn but I didn’t have any sport weight 100% non-superwash wool in fingering weight but, Eat, Sleep, Knit to the rescue! Yesterday they announced a new yarn – Manos Alpaca Heather, which is 70% Wool/30% Alaca and it’s sport weight so it’s actually the perfect yarn for my project. I was looking for something kinda specific and I think this might be it.
There aren’t a lot of colors in this Alpaca Heather yarn, or at least ESK doesn’t have a ton of colors in that yarn – they have 12 colors and when I need four colors, that means I need 1/3 of the colors in stock to work together.
Here are the colors I’ve come up with:

This one is probably my first choice but I’m not sure if the blue and gray – the left two – may blend too much.

I could sub that rusty orange in place of the blue but I don’t feel like that adds anything.
But, if I switch out the gray for a burgundy and leave the same blue, pink and gold, I think I have a good combination.

I think that final grouping is what I’m going to use. Hope it works out the way I think it will.

I totally agree with your color choices…and all for the same reasons you cited. I always loved colorwork when I did knit – haven’t done it in years, but never say never! 🙂

Hobbies seem to come and go in my life. I keep hoping I’ll get back to quilting so I’ll hope you start knitting again some day.

Love all your color combos but the bottom seems to pop a bit more. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of that yarn. I also liked the look of the new tweedy one they added but have other tweedy yarns to use before I need to stash any of that. However, state tax refund deposited to my bank account yesterday – a bit out today to order one of my favorite yarns – power boost even! – smooshy with cashmere for a sweater (or two). 🙂

I’ve never made a sweater with Smooshy with Cashmere. Do I need to order more yarn? 🙂

I haven’t used it in a sweater yet but in cowls, shawl, socks and I like the way it feels and the gorgeous colors. I’ll let you know how it does in a sweater 🙂

Thanks. Fingering weight yarn isn’t my first choice for sweaters but if you like it, I’m willing to try it.

I do like the blue with the gray, and thought that a much prettier combination than the top you started thinking about – soft and very pastel. But your bottom selection looks nice, too, and you might not be as soft color-liking as I am, so it’s all good. =)
