I mentioned in this post about the Flash Knit Along at Eat, Sleep Knit. It started January 27, which was in the midst of the blog being down and the knitting was a nice diversion from my blog woes.
I don’t think I mentioned this on here but I was knitting along, had a good rhythm going and got to about Row 35 or so, was admiring my work and thought . . wait a minute . . there’s no hole for the thumb! I had to rip back about 16 rows of colorwork. That is a whole lot of wasted time and effort.
I thought about all kinds of things I could do — afterthought thumb; no thumb . . and in the end, I knew I had to fix it so I ripped it back to the row where the thumb was to go.
Mitten #1 was finished, except for the thumb, on the 29th so it took me two days to make that one. Last night I finished mitten #2, except for the thumb, so it took me four days to make that one. I’m not sure I want to look at it this morning. I was knitting during the Super Bowl and probably made all kinds of mistakes because my mind was not on knitting!
I’m hoping to get both thumbs finished today, soak and block them and hopefully they’ll be dry before our winter weather gets here Tuesday night.

Beautiful mittens. Makes me think of the Norwegian sweaters my cousin in Minnesota knits.

Good eye! They are a Norwegian mitten . . because, you know . . our winters are a lot like Norwegian winters! 🙂

Your mittens are turning out great! I did one of the fingerless mitts patterns and finished them off this weekend.

I am loving making these. Even though it’s almost all stranded work, it’s not nearly as time consuming as making a sweater with just a little colorwork. Headed over to your blog to see if you posted your mitts.

It’s a really pretty pattern. I hope you actually get to use them!
