We’ve been busy this week – not really so much busy but just had to be around the house for different things going on but I used the last of the milk yesterday to make yogurt, knowing we were going to the store today. We also each had a Chick-Fil-A “reward” on the app for a free 8 piece nugget pack so we bought fries, got a senior free drink and enjoyed a lunch for less than $4.00.
My guess is that the way we buy groceries is weird to others. Some will remember when we bought boxes and boxes of toilet paper and paper towels. That was in August, 2018 so it was time to start thinking about buying more. We aren’t out – probably only about half of what we bought has been used but Vince found a deal and ordered more and it should be here tomorrow.
We eat a lot of dry beans mostly because we love beans . . all kinds of beans. When I was looking at the beans in the grocery store today, I asked Vince if he had liked the 15 bean soup I made recently and he said “I LOVED that stuff!” That’s what I like to hear.
I didn’t need pinto beans because I have 2 – 50 pound bags of those but I was low on split peas, black eyed peas, yellow beans, black beans, the 15 bean soup mix and Great Northern beans, which I use for baked beans. I bought about 40 pounds of beans and still had plenty of most beans here at the house. They’re inexpensive, a great source of fiber and I can do so much with them. I won’t need to buy beans again til probably this time next year.
Our stores never have many lentils so I had ordered 24 one pound bags of brown lentils and they arrived today. I also bought two bags of red lentils.
We’re still eating on leftovers but one of the first things I want to make once the leftovers are gone is this Lentil Soup.

I do the same thing with beans! I have a big plastic container with a mixture of the different beans in it. Whenever we want soup I soak some and cook it up the next day. Easy dinner that everybody likes (even the little ones).

My DIL and I ate at Chick Fila today. I used my app and got her the free nuggets. But I didn’t know Seniors got free drinks there!?!

How do you fit the beans into Keto? If I could figure that out, it would be so much easier to commit to keto.

We feel like part of any diet is using a sensible approach and we decided that beans aren’t that bad. Yes, there are 15 net carbs in half a cup of pinto beans and that’s a lot but we’ve given up eating hundreds of carbs per day so as long as we can eat beans and continue to lose weight and feel good, we do it. If we only eat beans two or three times per week and are otherwise strict with the low carb foods, it does not knock us out of ketosis and does not affect our weight loss. I think it’s different for every person and it takes some trial and error to find what’s right for each person. We also have one baked sweet potato per week.

I love 15 or 20 or however many-bean soup, too. And lentil soup. And pretty much most soups. LOL That Chik-Fil-A lunch is a lot like what I order when I go. Or I just have the senior lemonade and a 12-piece, because I really, REALLY, like their chicken – and no sauce! That just would ruin it. Good think they aren’t open late, or I would probably go over and get some now!
