Of course we’re not going to town without going by Aldi. Some day, I’m going to tell Vince that everything we buy, he is responsible for putting up. He loves shopping but he doesn’t think how much work it is to get the meat repackaged and ready for the freezer.
Aldi will stick a $2 off or $5 off sticker on meat that is within a day or so of expiring. Today they had a whole lot of ground beef, some 96/4 and some 93/7, with $2 off stickers. It was all $4.99 per pound so I got it for between $2.40 and $2.99 per pound, or somewhere in that range. Can’t beat that. I think I got 8 packages of ground beef and most packages are between 1 and 1.25 pounds.
They had chuck roasts already on sale for $3.99 per pound and they had $2 off stickers. They had one package of the thin sliced ribeye steak that I love for making sandwiches, and it had a $2 off sticker.
I grabbed on package of chicken breasts – 3 boneless, skinless breasts with a $2 off sticker. Also, there was a pork tenderloin with a $2 off sticker.
I got the ground beef, sliced steak and chicken breasts vacuum sealed. The chuck roasts and pork tenderloin were already vacuum sealed. I kept out one package of ground beef and one chuck roast for more chili, which Vince has requested. He also thinks I should make a big batch of that and can it, which I probably will do next week.
We got two packages of baby back ribs, each with a $2 off sticker and one piece of salmon with a $5 off sticker.
I seasoned the ribs, wrapped them in foil and will smoke them probably Sunday. Vince is going to do what he does to the salmon tonight and we’ll smoke it tomorrow.
It’s a lot of work but it’s nice knowing we got a bargain and have that meat in the freezer.

Our Aldi must have more traffic than yours, because we don’t often see marked down meat, but this morning there were bone-in chicken thighs marked $2 off. I got 2 packages of 6 thighs each for around $2.00 each. I can throw those in the Instant Pot with some seasoning and my husband will eat that all day long. I wish there were more. I won’t bother to freeze them, but will just cook them up and freeze some cooked if we don’t eat them within the next few days. It takes time to process it all, for sure

What time do you go by there. We never have any marked down here in our area. They generally don’t even have the sale meats in either. Always disappointed when stop to get meats on sale

Cause … there was no meat in the freezer? =) Those are bargains. I’m not buying much at Aldi or anywhere else since I got Jenny to cook for me!

Sounds like getting Vince to realize how much work goes into packaging the meat starts with questions in the the grocery store. “What will you do with that? How would you like that fixed? What meal would you like served with that? You smoke all the salmon, but I have to process everything else? I don’t feel good. I’m going out to the car/truck. Whatever you buy, you have to process without me.”
Maybe then when you get home, you can keep him in the kitchen working together to package up the meat…..

Remember that email we exchanged yesterday–MEN! Michael is the same way–we go to Costco to stock up on meats and it will take me at least a couple hours to vacuum seal all the meat–does he ever offer to help??? No Aldi in Arizona.

You are getting two dollars off the total price, it doesn’t change the price per pound. Just saying. Still a good deal though.

True. I changed the wording. Thank you.

We visited James’ cousins in California a few years ago. She was baking us some apple hand pies and he was right there cleaning up behind her. I was so mad at James.lol. I still think of him helping her when I get into one of these kitchen situations of putting away everything. After 28 years he still does not know where the mayo is in the fridge. gotta laugh.

What kind of vacuum sealer do you use?
