Back in early November, I came across The Knitter Magazine. I’m not even sure how I initially found it. I think it was a project someone else shared and as I began looking for how to get a copy of that issue, I found that through an app on the iPad, there was an option to buy electronic copies of all the back issues, beginning with Issue #11 and going through about Issue #144 so that was 130+ issues for about $60. I did it and spent hours and hours going through the magazines. I’ve made the Eleri Cowl.
There is a new issue every month and not only are the patterns amazing, but there are great yarn reviews, articles to improve skills and it’s just overall one of the most inspirational magazines ever.
I’ve started the Gilda Cardigan.
Both of these patterns are by Mary Henderson. As far as my knitting goes, I would be happy living in a world where all patterns were designed and written by Mary Henderson. I’m not sure I’ve seen a recent issue of The Knitter that didn’t have a Mary Henderson pattern in it. I might add that I have not found that her patterns are for sale individually so getting them through The Knitter is my only way to get them.
As part of the “back issues” deal, I got all issues through 2019 and had subscribed for 2020 but it was $60.99 for the one year electronic subscription. It’s an app and isn’t going to charge my credit card til mid-month. When I told Vince, he kinda raised his eyebrows and said “I wouldn’t have paid that much but if you think it’s a good thing . . do it!” Well, that wasn’t exactly a full agreement but he isn’t the knitter and he isn’t enamored with Mary Henderson! 🙂
Then I started thinking about it – I have more patterns than I’ll ever knit. Getting the new magazines is very tempting to order new yarn – especially for colorwork projects. So, I talked myself out of renewing and cancelled. Then, when I was driving to Missouri, I was thinking about how much I look forward to each issue and I re-instated the subscription. While I was still in MO, I got an email that my account would be charged $60.99 later this month, thought about it and again cancelled.
Then, I saw a preview of the January issue, Mary Henderson has this pattern in it.
I love it! I want to make it. It will require a yarn purchase! 🙂
Once again, I reinstated my subscription and I’m done! I’m getting all the issues this year.
I will not order yarn for Green Lane until I’ve finished Gilda and Gilda is way down the list for getting finished.

Very pretty! Stripes and more stripes – I always have to smile when I see the patterns that really call out to you because chances are there will be stripes. For me it would be the patterns that have a lace look or cables – IF I was knitting, which I’m not. 🙂

There’s no option to order just one issue? I guess you could look at it as averaging out with the $60 you spent for that whole bunch of issues. Lowers the cost per issue way down.

What about this option , since you have all the back issues to keep you happy ,why no let this year go and you can order them later mucjh ccheaper like you got this set of back issuses. Also does this designer have a pinerest page or blog that is free?
