After getting home Monday evening, I spent Tuesday getting laundry done, cleaning out the fridge and planning the menu for the next week or so. Not much was accomplished but I’m always tired after that trip and keeping up with a 7 year old for 11 days.
Yesterday we left home fairly early, went to a local furniture store and tried out mattresses. Jana commented about Costco’s 2 year return policy and that had me wishing we had a Costco! It is so hard to walk into a furniture store, stretch out on a mattress for 10 seconds and decide what you want. Of course, the ones I thought felt good . . Vince didn’t like but the truth us, we weren’t sold on anything.
We decided to do what I mentioned yesterday – sleep on the extra bed for a few nights, decide if it’s ok and if so, move it to our room; move the newer but uncomfortable set to the extra bedroom. We rarely have overnight guests and it’s not the worst bed ever . . but close.
So, I washed the sheets on the extra bed, brought Rita’s bassinet in there and tonight, we’ll try sleeping in that room.
After trying out mattresses, we went to Walmart for a few groceries. I’m so glad Christmas shopping is done and Walmart is “normal” again. Don’t think too hard about that word – normal – when used in the same sentence with Walmart.
Vince was walking around the store and he happened across a TV that was on sale so he called me and asked me to meet him in Electronics. I think it’s about 50″ and the one we had been using is about 45″ . . doesn’t seem that much bigger but in reality, it is, and the picture is so much better and it has more bells and whistles than our older TV. We’ll take the older TV to MO probably.
From there, we went to Aldi, bought a few things, then by the local vegetable market because I had seen on Facebook that they had shelled pecans on sale. We bought 6 pounds of shelled pecans, came home and I vacuum sealed them in one pound bags, along with ham that we had cooked yesterday. I think I ended up with six or seven bags of ham.
Got that all done, then started cooking and here it is after 7 p.m. and I’m just fixing to start knitting!
At some point during the afternoon, I got yogurt going so I still have to deal with that tonight once it’s finished in the Instant Pot.
Seriously, I’m ready for bed!

Have you tried the Tempurpedic mattress? We bought one around 5 years ago, after many years of sleeping on not great mattresses. Like you, it’s hard to decide on what to purchase by lying on it for such a short time. My husband likes a soft mattress I like a firmer one, so far we’re both very satisfied. Good luck on the mattress hunt.

Judy, in regard to buying a new mattress … have you thought about ordering something from Casper or Tuft & Needle. They are not inexpensive but it makes more sense than trying to make a decision in a store. Both of these mattress companies ship the mattresses boxed up to you and you can try them out for 100 nights. If you don’t like them, you can return them – sort of. Both companies will give you a refund. With Tuft & Needle, you donate the mattress to a charity, get a receipt for the donation and then submit it to Tuft & Needle for a complete refund of what you paid. Casper works similarly but I’m not sure if you need to do the donating or if they send someone to pick it up and then they donate it. My husband and I have had trouble finding mattresses that we both like and we recently purchased Tuft & Needles new “hybrid” mattress. So far we both like it. We have ergonomic beds – yes 2 beds. Both are twin xtra long. Put together they make a king size mattress and we purchase what are called split king sheet sets. This was the best thing we could have done.

I find that the best beds are the simplest, like most things in life. Forget all those expensive spring beds and go for a simple wooden plank one with a simple mattress of your choice, usually found in IKEA. It’s good for your back to sleep on boards and you can choose a thickness of mattress to suit you 2″, 4″, 6″. Forget spring mattresses as the springs always come through and cause discomfort.

You make me tired just reading all the things you do each day!
