It’s pretty weird that my car is 12-1/2 years old. We’ve had some rocks hit the windshield pretty hard but never cracked or chipped the windshield.
Yesterday, I two two chips/cracks. I couldn’t believe none for 12-1/2 years and then two in one day.
I called Liberty Mutual and, we’ve had very few claims – one accident in MO in about 2008, a hail damage claim for the Honda the first year we were in TX and now a windshield repair. I called them and they got a repair set up and by the end of the day, my windshield was fixed.
When I called, they told me they have good results fixing cracks that are not more than three inches long. The glass shop wanted to do it the next day but when I told them one of the cracks was already about 2″, they told me to bring it by, I did and they fixed both of the.
You can still see where each rock hit but the cracks have pretty much disappeared.
Hopefully I’ll go another 12-1/2 years without having another cracked windshield.

Does that leave the windshield weaker, I wonder? I’ve had pocks that were quarter size or less fixed by a guy standing around in the gas station aisles, but I didn’t know they could fix cracks that long. I’m glad you got it fixed!

We had had our Jeep only a week and we took a trip to Alicia’s. When we came back we were on the access road and a huge rock hit the windshield. We think someone from the pickup we met was throwing rocks! We went to the place here and they fixed it. A few weeks later, we noticed the crack was bigger. We went back and they said once is all they can do to repair a windshield. A new windshield was going to cost us about $600 because it had the little Jeep at the bottom of it! We decided to take our chances and wait until the car got older and get a used one! Still driving with the chip!
