Rita’s New Bed

I should’ve taken a picture of Rita in her new bed but the lighting is so bad inside the house.

Her bed did arrive yesterday. I had read the reviews and . . I’ll just say it’s hard to get a real feel for anything based on the opinion of others. A recurring comment was that it was very difficult to put together and some had to find and watch a video in order to get it done. Had I been putting it together, there may have been a problem but Vince did it without even looking at the instructions and it too him just a few minutes.

Other reviewers said it slopes towards the back and their baby would end up against the edge and they felt that wasn’t safe. It does slope but I think if you put a towel under the mattress on that side, it would level it, or put a magazine or two under the back side of the legs should work. For the price, you shouldn’t have to do that but if you want to use it and keep the baby safe, it seems to be an easy fix.

Others said the “mattress” was very hard. Yes! It is! But that wasn’t a concern because we put Rita’s padded bed on top of the mattress.

She’s such a good sleeper . . way better than Speck ever was. If Speck heard someone up, he was getting up and it didn’t matter if it was 2 a.m. or 7 a.m. Rita sometimes wakes up during the night and I think she’s needing reassurance that we’re still close by. I’ll either pat her head or just say “go back to sleep” and she does.

When it was bed time, we put her bed and her blanket in the bassinet, put her in there and I’m not sure she ever realized anything was different. She knew I was close to her but . . she was not in our bed.

That bassinet is a perfect solution for us . . she’s close and I can reach her to reassure her that we’re still there but I can sleep without her in the bed. I’m thinking it was a very good investment.
