Last night Rita didn’t feel good and had to go out three times between 3 a.m. and about 6:30 a.m. and considering we didn’t go to bed til about 1:15 a.m., I didn’t get much sleep. After breakfast, I decided to go back to bed for a while, and about the time I dozed off, I heard the UPS truck and immediately, something in my head screamed YARN ARRIVAL. Vince was going to go out and meet the UPS truck and intercept my yarn package and that was going to open up that whole nasty discussion about not buying more yarn. I knew it was too late . . even if I hopped out of bed, I still had on my pajamas and then I heard the door open and knew Vince was already out the door but there was no going back to sleep.
I’m so ready for the end of the year! I always feel this way at the end of a year when I’m committing to not buying yarn or fabric or losing weight .. stuffing in those last minute things so I can start afresh on January 1.
So . . here’s the yarn story.
Baa Ram Ewe is a British yarn company and they had a DK weight yarn – Dovestone, that everyone loved. What made this yarn so special was that it was 25% Wensleydale wool. Apparently the Wensleydale has some amount of silkiness to the wool and it was truly loved but, there was a shortage of Wensleydale fleece and that yarn had to be discontinued . . before I ever knew about it’s loveliness!
Baa Ram last year introduced Winterburn, a very similar yarn. Also a British yarn because Baa Ram is a British company.
I had been hearing that it was somewhat similar to Dovestone and had planned to buy enough for a sweater but that was before the big Madelinetosh sale, after which I had to whittle away at my yarn wish list but I was never sorry because of the price I had paid for the Madelinetosh.
The Winterburn sold for about $19 per skein but last week, a friend told me it was on sale at Little Knits for about $9 per skein if you bought their “bag full” which is 5 skeins. So, for right at $90, I got 10 skeins of yarn, or 2,520 yards! I would normally buy probably 1,800 yards of DK weight if I didn’t know what I was going to make but it would have cost more to have purchased the bag of 5 skeins and then 3 single skeins.
This color is Nidderdale and it’s a much brighter green than the photo shows.
I also got this one, which is Bishopthrope.
I will probably have enough yarn to make two sweaters from each color, or, at least a sweater for me and one for Addie and probably still have enough leftover to combine the two, maybe add one more skein of a third color and make yet another adult sweater.
It’s always going to be hard to pass up a sale but I can do this, right?

Well we can always try. I don’t think I ever like to say I won’t do (whatever) again this year! LOL That way it is not hard to go ahead and do it! And I don’t have to feel guilty!

Those are really pretty colors. Is it as soft as it looks it might be?
