Last night I was making pie crusts. The recipe I use makes three crusts. We do not need three pies! I’m going to make a pumpkin pie today and save the other two crusts. I may freeze the other two or may make a buttermilk over the weekend since I have buttermilk and that’s one of my favorite pies.
I had planned to make the cornbread last night but didn’t so I’ll get that made first thing this morning and will crumble it and put it in the oven with the temp very low and dry it out a bit since I usually make it several days before I make the dressing.
I’ll make the Watergate Salad today because I love that stuff. I made the fermented cranberry sauce already and the fermented Curtido. I will make green beans and rolls tomorrow.
Last night as I was stirring up the pie crusts, I thought back to all the years we went to my grandparents for Thanksgiving; then they came to my parents’ house for Thanksgiving. We usually either go to friends’ or have friends over so we aren’t spending Thanksgiving by ourselves but it isn’t like having a lot of family around. I miss that.
I wondered how many people were in the kitchen last night prepping for Thanksgiving, and how many more will spend the day in the kitchen today; I wonder how many will go out to eat; how many will completely ignore the holiday and have regular meals instead of a traditional meal. I suppose there’s no right or wrong way to spend Thanksgiving though I’m pretty traditional about Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
As far as meals for today, we have leftovers and we’ll have those while I’m doing what I need to do so we have a Thanksgiving feast tomorrow.

Judy- My husband is not a fan of Turkey, so I have only done the “traditional” meal once in our 25 years together. (Just could not justify getting up at 4:00 in the morning to make a meal he didn’t care for!) I still make a special meal, just not Turkey. It varies from year to year. This year he and his brother requested beef stew, with butter horn rolls, corn muffins, sautéed apples, and carrot cake. All made from scratch, so I still get up at o’dark thirty, but it’s for a meal that they will appreciate! Hope you and Vince have a Happy Thanksgiving and plenty of time to video chat with that little family in Missouri!

Happy Thanksgiving! We’re traditional Thanksgiving eaters. And, like you, we always went to my Grandparents or DH’s Grandparents for the meals – wonderful being with all the relatives. Definitely miss having all the family around for food and fellowship.

Happy Thanksgiving! We hosted really large (30-40) groups for a lot of years. Now I’m happy to let my SIL do the major cooking, or my nieces and nephews – depending on where we go for Thanksgiving. This year I’m just hoping the winter storm predicted for the next few days doesn’t trap us at home with just the deviled eggs and BBQ smokies that I was instructed to bring. 🙂

We are actually changing our menu up this year: Steak with portobello mushrooms. onion in a butter sauce. Bacon wrapped Asparagus, beets. Then peanut butter sandwich cookies made with a peanut butter recipe: with a twist- when they are done, I add Reese’s Peanut butter cup on the thin side to them and top them. Off to the freezer they go … One can put chocolate icing on them or have them with ice cream or whipped cream. YUMMY

I hope you had a great day. I bought my dinner, but reheating was almost as much work, so next year, we really ARE going out for Thanksgiving dinner! LOL So is it a southern thing to have green beans for Thanksgiving? That’s what came with my dinner, and we didn’t have them, nor did Paul’s family ever. We always had some kind of sweet potato casserole or candied yams, something along those lines.

I hope you and Vince had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We had the traditional dinner, although this year we passed hosting off to our daughter. It was great. I made stuffing yesterday and today I got to play with the baby while they got dinner on the table. Best Thanksgiving ever! AND, our son came over this morning and helped set up my long arm. I have so much to be thankful for this year, as you well know! Now to head to bed so I can hot the ESK sale in the morning!
