I probably shouldn’t keep going on about it but since finding The Knitter magazine, my thoughts about knitting have changed . . a lot! I mentioned it in the earlier post today but there are so many “new to me” yarns I want to try and so many different patterns I want to make. Hopefully this afternoon I’ll have the colorwork cowl finished, but not yet blocked, and I can share that photo. This is the kind of work I want to do . . maybe not every single thing I knit but this is new and exciting to me where solid colored sweaters just aren’t very exciting. I’m not concerned because I know how quickly my “likes” can change. There’s always a place for solid sweaters but just for fun, I want to do colorwork.
Last night, while working on the cowl and thinking how much I was enjoying the project, I started having second thoughts about the Madelinetosh orders I have outstanding. It was two months ago that I ordered the yarn. If that same sale happened today, after having spent hours perusing back issues of The Knitter magazine, would I still order 100+ skeins of Tosh Merino Light . . all one skein per color? No! I wouldn’t. I thought about it more this morning. Even at 70% off, it was a lot of money. I told Vince . . “I’m going to cancel a couple of big orders with Madelinetosh.” He said “NO! You’ll never get that price again.” I explained that of the 100+ skeins I was thinking about cancelling, I’d probably never use more than half of them. That makes the sale price not nearly as appetizing as it would have been if I felt confident I’d use 100% of the yarn I bought.
I’ve only used the single ply TML for shawls and though I would like to make one sweater with it just to see what it’s like for a sweater, I doubt I’ll ever use it for much more than shawls. I have a ton of it already so it isn’t like I’ll ever run out. For a while, knitting shawls was all I wanted to do but now, I want to knit sweaters. I know that will change but that’s where I am now.
Vince would have preferred I not cancel the order. He thinks I’ll be sorry I don’t think so. If it had been sweater quantities of a yarn I use for making sweaters, I would not have cancelled it but that many single skeins of a single ply yarn . . no.
I cancelled it and refund has been issued. I feel good about my decision.

There ya go .as long as you are ok with cancelling the yard order that is what matters.

This time I think Vince might be right! But you need to try the new ones and see which ones you like better.

Good for you. If you don’t really want it, why get it, no matter the price.
