The good far outweighs the bad but this is the frustrating thing about Madelinetosh yarns. I ordered enough yarn to make a sweater for Vince with Tosh Sport. To be safe, I ordered 12 skeins for his sweater since I didn’t have a clue what I was going to make. The color is Nocturne, which is almost always a very dark blue – navy with enough lighter blue in it to know that it’s blue. This is what I received. Almost black! There’s totally no blue in this batch.
A friend received hers recently and this is the color of her Nocturne.
Just a bit different, wouldn’t you say?
I had also ordered enough of a color called Graveyard to make a sweater for Vince, not knowing which color he would like best.
He said he likes the black better because he doesn’t like red, although I think it’s more rust.
I’m disappointed in the color of the Nocturne I received, though to be 100% fair, I have seen some very dark skeins of Nocturne but never any as close to being black as those shown above. It’s Madelinetosh. What else can I say? Vince said he’s happy with it so that’s what matters . . but I think he would have been happier with just a tad more blue.

Judy- if you’re in the mood to try something new, you can always overdye the Nocturne with a royal blue acid dye and give it a bluer tone. It’s really easy! But I warn you ahead of time- It’s a deep Rabbit Hole to fall into!

I can understand subtle differences but I am with you on this! This color is a very dark gray! I see no blue in it whatsoever!
I would be upset too.
Nelle Coursey says
I bet he would like the black and rust better once it was made up.

At least YOU would have been happier with the blue. That’s a pretty big difference in yarn colors. Usually a dye lot is at least *close* to the same color.
