Everyone knows about the Madelinetosh sale, right? Just in case – Madelinetosh is one of my favorite yarns. Towards the end of September, they announced a “final” 40% off sale but no other explanation. Many of us bought a good bit of yarn because 40% off is amazing. Within a couple of days, that went to 70% off and then many of us cashed in all the retirement funds and bought more yarn. Lots more yarn. Then, towards the middle of October, Jimmy Beans Wool, another good yarn company, announced they had bought Madelinetosh.
During the sale, pretty much every knitter was going nuts buying yarn. One day, they sold over 20,000 skeins . . in one day! That all has to be hand dyed! And, they didn’t have enough inventory to cover the orders so yarn had to be ordered before they could ever dye it.
My second order was placed September 25 and I still don’t have it!
A lot of people got angry that they had paid for yarn and didn’t have it and Madelinetosh was totally silent about what was going on, when we might receive our orders. Some began to panic and cancelled their orders and got refunds. I can understand that it was kinda scary, especially if you’d gone out on a limb, spent more than you should have, the credit card came in and had to be paid and you hadn’t heard a word about your yarn. Yes, I understand that very well! 🙂
I just love this Mac & Cheese color! I ordered a couple of skeins of it on Tosh Merino Light and I ordered enough to make a sweater in DK High Twist.
High Twist was one of the first yarns we began hearing was out of stock. Since we weren’t hearing from Madelinetosh, what was happening was . . someone would call to ask about a specific base, and Madelinetosh would say something like . . we’ll have more in three weeks, or we’re out and can’t get more. Then someone would tell someone else and by the time it got to me, I wasn’t sure what was going on. I wasn’t concerned about any yarn I had ordered but I really wanted to make a sweater out of the Mac & Cheese.
Yesterday I got notice that my Mac & Cheese yarns have been shipped. I can stop worrying! 🙂
Someone asked me what I’m going to make with it. I’m not sure who thinks knitters need to know what they’re going to make just because they buy yarn! Right? Quilters? You know you do the same thing with fabric!
I’m surprised how excited I am to know I’m actually getting that Mac & Cheese yarn.

I’m still waiting for my second order … I need to look and see what that was. I know I will be excited when it arrives. I ordered October 2 and from what I hear they are working on getting those orders shipped. Excited and watching for a package!

It always surprised me when other customers at Joann would ask what I was going to make with fabrics I was buying. (tee hee)
How far up your list will the Mac ‘n Cheese go? Will it be a sweater for yourself? Would you ever make matching socks? (Especially in such a bold color)
Enough questions for one day!

Yes! This quilter buys fabric without having a specific project in mind. It has to be something I really love, though, as I’ve decreased my buying substantially over the last couple of years. The last such purchase I made was a mid-century style fabric that had a print or two with poodles on it. I love mid-century style and adore my two toy poodles, so it was a no-brainer, right? Still don’t know what I’m going to do with it, but that’s OK. It makes me happy just to look at it.

This would make a beautiful sweater, cardigan or a shell. Heck whatever you make out of it will be beautiful!

I finally got my notice that my yarn will be here Saturday. My daughter ordered earlier the same day and she received hers a couple days ago. What I don’t understand (and probably never will ) when we ordered, it appeared there was a limited amount of these particular yarns that they were selling out of. So, if you got your order in and the next time you looked, it said “sold out”, I assumed they were just selling left overs. Then you hear that in one day they sold over 21,000 skeins! Makes no sense to me. Was it a glitch in their system? I mean…they can’t be making much money off this sale, so what happened? I sure wish we could find out.

It’s a lovely yellow. With those sale prices, I wouldn’t have been worried. Either it would come or I’d get a refund.
