Yesterday morning Vince got up and it was 20 degrees out. He went out just after daylight to give Cat food. He gets up . . I never hear anything and I don’t even know he’s out of bed or out the door. I really do sleep so soundly.
Next thing I know, someone is banging on the bedroom window. I’m saying “Vince . . there’s somebody outside!” and I’m floundering around trying to wiggle him to wake him up and he’s not even in bed. Then the person banging on the window is yelling “Judy! Judy!” and I’m thinking . . oh, no . . Vince isn’t here, the burglar is banging on the window and he knows my name! Then I realized it was Vince . . outside . . in 20 degree weather saying “Let me in!” Maybe he said “Open the door!” I can’t remember. I’m thinking . . I KNOW he was in bed during the night so he hasn’t spent the night out there!
The front door was unlocked but the door know must have been too cold to function and the other door was locked so Vince couldn’t in. I got up and let him in.
I told him . . we’re getting older. You really should tell me when you go outside because what if I slept til 8:00 and you fell or something? Better yet, Cat can wait til I’m ready to get up before she eats! No . . not that demanding cat. She’s on the porch meowing for her food by daylight. She’s forgotten that she used to live on mice, snakes and rabbits instead of Fancy Feast (or whatever Vince feeds her!).
Yes, the critters around here tell us what to do and we do it!

We have already locked ourselves out of the house here. Hubby doesn’t check the lock on the front door when he goes out. Luckily a couple of friends still had housekeys so we just had to find one of them home (at that time I had my keys with me, but I did not have a housekey because of leaving ones with friends – so I had car keys). One good thing about living in town!!

After I got locked out several times (I did have a key hidden in a storage building so I could get back in. We changed the door knob to one that you can not accidently lock. Worth what it cost.

I did this years ago. I waited over an hour for my sister to leave work, get her copy, come let me in. We now have a combo lockbox outside the front door.

I laughed so hard picturing you floundering around thinking the burglar knows your name. It is true though things could have had a different outcome if he’d fallen, something to think about.

When my daughter started dating, we forgot about her being out one night and locked up and went to bed. We never heard her banging on the front door, our bedroom windows…nothing! She eventually climbed in through a window she was able to force open!! We never heard the end of it. 🙂

I love the way you tell a story, Judy! That made me laugh so much – not at Vince, the poor guy – just the situation with your confusion as you were awakened out of a sound sleep.

I was laughing, because I don’t think that burglar’s knock…must be a really polite burglar! LOL

Biggest reason we have a keypad on all our doors.
