A couple of weeks ago, friends and I were talking about the Madelinetosh yarns that we don’t have in our stashes. The discussion was all about . . what if they go away and forever we wish we had gotten this or that yarn! You know how it is with obsessions . . always wanting what you don’t have.
With Madelinetosh yarns, there are many obsessed knitters. I’m not the worst because I have voiced my critical views (fades, they don’t put weight on skeins), customer service . . zero!) But they have the best colors and the best bases and I think, with so many things, part of the obsession is not being able to get the yarn sometimes. A new color shows up on the website and it’s gone before you can get it. There are special bases that aren’t always in stock and when they make an appearance, it’s a mad rush to get them.
One of those bases was Cormo. The wool is from the Cormo sheep, a special and apparently not that common breed or, at least the wool is not very common. I remember when Madelinetosh was getting some of it in and there was a lot of talk about it but I didn’t think I had any.
As I was sorting and re-organizing my yarn recently, I came across some of the Madelinetosh Cormo fingering weight. I found nine skeins. All except two were single skeins of one color so that meant I had 7 different colors; 1 skein each of 5 different colors and 2 skeins each of 2 different colors. One of those was Pavement and one was a light blue. I decided right when I found that yarn that I wanted to make something to celebrate my find.
The stitch definition is amazing. I expected the yarn to be heavier. It seems thicker on the skein but knits up almost weightless it seems. it’s very drapy and I’m anxious to see how the cables will look.
The pattern is Celtic Myths and I think I’m going to love it. So far, it’s very easy! I knitted this amount while watching the last half of the football game last night so it was pretty mindless. After this main part is done, there will be a pretty cable border. That’s the part I’m looking forward to seeing!
