Knit Companion Update

Knit Companion is about the most amazing app I’ve ever used. I cannot imagine knitting without it. Even the simplest of patterns, like my favorite sock pattern, Classic Socks for the Family . . I can knit those socks without ever looking at the pattern but I have it in Knit Companion.

Their recent update for the IOS version has a little scribble tool and I am so in love with that addition. You can either use your finger or the Apple pencil. Using your finger is “bulky” and not very neat so I was going to order the Apple pencil and for my iPad, the least expensive one I could find was $100. No! I did a little searching and found this pencil on Amazon for $39.99.

This makes the program immeasurably easier to use!

I tried to keep this image cropped so as not to show the copyrighted pattern. I can tap on any marker or the eraser, write, highlight, erase and since I haven’t read the instructions yet, I don’t know what else it does but I’m super impressed.

Before, if I wanted to make a note, I had to go to “edit”, then click on highlight or make a text note, type out the note or use the mouse to draw a highlight; now I can circle anything or highlight it and make notes.

Examples: Most patterns come with 5 or 6 or more sizes. Say I’m making the 2nd size inside parenthesis. If I’m jumping around between projects and I get to the point in the instructions where it says “Knit 1, (1.5, 1.75, 2.25) inches”, I have to go back to page 1 to see which size I’m making. Is it the second one or third one in parenthesis? So, I’d go through the pattern when I started and highlight the numbers that applied to my pattern. With this marking tool addition, I can just circle the numbers applicable to my size.

Sometimes I make marks in the pattern and I have to go to the area where the sticky notes setup is, tap where I want the note, type the note. It isn’t hard by any means but it will be so much easier with the pencil.

Also, we can do a long tap and a little square on point pops up to let us know where we’re leaving off as we’re putting aside a project for a day or a year. But, something like Hitofude where I have two of them going, I have to either set up two projects separately in KC or now I can just write a note . . “start here . . blue” or “start here . . purple”

I’m so happy with this new update.

If you have the IOS version of Knit Companion, you may want to update. I think you have to update IOS to be sure you have the latest version, then update KC. It’s definitely a great improvement.

This is the little gizmo that holds my iPad on the arm of my chair. There are three positions for the iPad. I use the back position for mine so I keep the needle I use for a cable needle in one of the extra slots and now the stylus pen fits in the other slot. Perfect!
