Every week we get an email from our electric company and it tells us how much electricity we’ve used for the week and how this week’s usage compares to last week’s usage.
I can never figure it all out and not much of it makes sense to me. It doesn’t even matter but I think it’s a bit comical.
First, it tells us that we used about $5.60 for this week and $5.63 last week. I guess we’re pretty consistent.
This one is interesting We used a bit of power Sunday, Monday and Tuesday but zero on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Zero? Really? Our solar panels only work when the sun is shining. We didn’t have the a/c running but we still had three fridges and three big freezers running and I won’t even guess how many computers/tablets are running at any given time. And lights . . they count for something, right? And the well pump? We take showers and flush toilets after dark. Yes, at some point between Wednesday morning and Saturday night, we took showers and flushed toilets! 🙂
This one is what really cracks me up. Look how much more power we used than an efficient home. So, an efficient home uses less than $5.60 per week in power. I don’t believe it! 🙂
I suppose it speaks volumes about the excitement in my life when I look forward to these weekly emails.
Seriously, I do love our electric company. The REP (retail electric provider) we had before this one about had me wanting to scream . . or be rude like RG!
When we first moved here, the company that provided our lines was the highest in the State of Texas and something like the 2nd or 3rd from the most expensive in the country. It was absurd what we paid for electricity. That was one of the main reasons we put the solar panels in. Oncor provided lines to almost everyone else in the area. We were in a little pocket of about a dozen homes stuck with the other company. We were so happy when Oncor bought out the other company and they’ve been excellent also. They are so nice to deal with and we are lucky to have them servicing this area.

Are those “efficient” homes totally off the grid? They must only turn on one light for less than an hour a day…LOL I don’t see how a real house could be that efficient.

They (Oncor) service the area no matter what electric service provider you have. Oncor owns the lines and provides the power. I am not sure how this works. I guess they sell the power to the companies and they just send out the bills! I liked it a lot more before we had deregulation!

We didn’t have Oncor the first 6 years we were here. We had Sharyland and a lot of people worked very hard to get the Oncor buyout to go through. We’re happy to be in Oncor’s service area now but we weren’t always on their lines.
