Welcome to my first Monday Night Knitting Summary!
Finished Projects:
Brother-in-Law Socks – These were finished on 10/29. My brother-in-law lives in upstate New York so I made them from a sport weight wool, Opal Polarlichter, and knitted them very tightly with a 2.5 mm needle. I hope his feet enjoy them more than my hands did! The pattern is Classic Socks for the Family, which is the very first pattern I used for making socks back in 2005 or 2006. It’s a very simple top down pattern and has multiple sizes, baby, child, woman and man, plus instructions for fingering, sport and worsted weight socks. It’s definitely a classic sock pattern.
Projects Started this Past Week:
Kings and Thieves – This is a cowl pattern . . the one I want to make for Addie’s teacher for Christmas. I chose these two yarns: The purple is Bugga by Sanguine Gryphon and the color is Colorado Hairstreak. The pink is Madelinetosh Pashmina and the color is Isadora.
I thought these colors went nicely together but am finding them boring as I work the pattern. The longer I work it, the more I like it so there’s hope.
My row gauge is off so I’m doing four lace repeats with each color instead of the three suggested in the pattern. Of course, it will look much better when it’s blocked. I’m halfway done with the knitting now.
This is not going to be for Addie’s teacher because I’ve already received or have yarn on the way that will be used for her project.
Projects in Progress:
I did a bit of work on the Fern & Feather sweater. This is my current “mindless project” because there’s just stockinette remaining. I can take it to work on while waiting at appointments or for working on in the car if Vince is driving. No counting, no thinking!
Older Projects in Progress:
I would love to get started on the sleeves for my Blue Sand Cardigan.
Projects I May Start This Week:
- Hitofude – A group of friends is going to do this and I will probably join in.
The yarn I’ll use is Madelinetosh Tosh Mo Light and the color is No Ruffles Please. I had already swatched several years ago thinking I might use this when I made my second Hitofude.
- King & Thieves – For Addie’s teacher. Surely I can make a yarn decision this week. The other yarn arrived today so now it’s all up to me . . decide what to use and get started.
- Celtic Myths – This is another project I’m doing with a few friends. I’m using Madtosh Cormo Fingering, another yarn I’ve had for a while but have never used.
Planned Projects:
There is a pattern I want to make. It’s called Alma Sweater. It’s one of those projects I should probably move away from and forget I ever saw it but I have a plan how I want to make this different from the pattern but because I don’t want to test my theory on colorwork, I’m going to make Addie a solid sweater, steek the front and steek the sleeves. I think I’m going to use The Knitter’s Dude as my guide for the front steek, since I’ve never done a steek before, but use Baby & Child Sophisticate as my guide for making the correct size.
I want to use school colors. This is the yarn I pulled. The red is darker than it seems but I have a darker red and a darker gray so I’m going to dig those out and use them instead of what’s shown. Not sure when I’ll start this project but it should be fairly quick and if it doesn’t work out like I’m thinking it should, I can rip it back since it’s not a huge project.
That should be enough to keep me busy for a week, don’t you think?

Knowing you, no, you will need more projects! LOL You work very fast so it could be more!

Are you finished yet? LOL That’s a lot of beautiful work in the making. I really like the socks, and I hope he does, too. The colors you aren’t using for Addie’s sweater are so pretty! =) I expect this will be a busy week for you.

Really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on “Celtic Myths”! It’s a pattern I’ve wanted to make, but the border? Knitting it and attaching it at the same time confuses me!

Kate Davies has a good three-part tutorial on steeks. Start here:

Thank you! I’ve gone over her directions several times. I just need to do it and you can bet I’ll reference her instructions while doing a steek.
