Just after I ordered yarn today, Vince sat down next to me and began telling me about this book he’s reading and he thinks I should read it. The book is The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself. Then he proceeded to tell me how me about your inner voice and how it will get you in trouble. I tried to tell him that my inner voice is nice and it doesn’t get me in trouble so I always listen to my inner voice. Then . . there was a rapid downward progression in the conversation.
He was telling me something about what causes us to be stressed – the book says you must objectively watch your problems instead of being lost in them. What? I have no problems. Most of this was in a joking way.
Me: I seriously have no problems!
Vince: You do! You want to live in Missouri.
Me: That isn’t a problem . . just because I think one thing is better for us than something else doesn’t make it a problem . . maybe my wanting to live in MO is YOUR problem and not MY problem!
Vince: So, really, you have no problems?
Me: Yes . . maybe . . I just ordered yarn.
Now . . things took a serious turn!
Vince: YOU ORDERED YARN? What about all the yarn you have already?
Me: None of that worked!
Then I explained that because of the credit, I only spent about $40 and that included a couple of needles AND after that purchase, I got a $30 credit so I really only spent $10.
Vince: A credit only matters if the money goes back into our account.
Me: That’s what your inner self is telling you! My inner self is saying “Wow! You have $30 more to spend on yarn!!”
His final words: You need to read the book!

Oh my, your conversations with Vince sound so much like my conversations with my hubby. . . . except my hubby sometimes goes off on quasi-conspiracy theories that come out of left field and leave me totally clueless! LOL

Hmm – did he buy the book for the kindle or did you get it from the library? What are the costs of reading all of these books? Just wondering?!?

How funny! Men can be so difficult some times! To me the “inner voice” is there to warn me of something bad that is going to happen!

Maybe Vince should start reading fiction! LOL He might enjoy the Longmire books by Craig Johnson or the Joe Pickett books by C.J. Box. Just relaxing non-personal-improvement fiction.

I consider inner voice as usually a warning mostly relating to my safety not an inner voice relating to my behavior or giving me a guilt trip re: purchases!
