It’s an ongoing battle around here with our trips to town. If just once I agree to go to town with Vince, then almost every day, there’s a discussion about us going to town. I do not understand his need to go to town every day but he doesn’t not understand my need to stay home.
It was two weeks ago yesterday that I went to town alone, bought groceries, thoroughly enjoyed it; came home and had a nice and what I thought was fruitful, discussion with Vince about how much I prefer to grocery shop alone and that I am not going to town with him every day.
We’ve done a decent job of staying home. One day last week we went to town but it was in Walmart and out . . I didn’t need anything and he got what he needed quickly.
Yesterday he wanted to go to town. Nope . . not going. He said “You mean I have to go by myself?” Yep . . or not go!
Then he wanted to know if I needed anything from the store. I told him I did not. I told him I was going to use all the carrots so if he wanted carrots for snacking, he needed to grab a bag of carrots. He wanted to know if I needed mushrooms. Nope . . nothing on the menu this week needs mushrooms.
Me: I have everything I need for the meals this week.
Vince: Bacon?
Me: Yes.
Vince: Greens?
Me: Yes.
Vince: Meat?
Me: I have everything we need!
He came home with scallops and mushrooms. You already know that I have all the meals planned and mostly made for this week. Now, I have scallops to use or freeze. I will use them today. I like to season them and fry them in butter with no breading; then serve them over coleslaw – the coleslaw I almost made yesterday.
I think I’m going to make a new rule: If you buy it without me asking for it; you’re responsible for either (1) vacuum sealing it and putting it in the freezer, then using it within two weeks; or (2) cooking it right away.
I’ve never met anyone who loves to shop as much as Vince does and he’s probably never met anyone to dislikes shopping as much as I do!

And yet he’s a minimalist. Go figure. 😉

I must be married to his twin! Yes, I do understand how frustrating it is.

Do you have a calendar in the kitchen with space to write on? keep track of the times each of you goes to town, alone or together. Could show some interesting data.

I don’t go shopping unless I need something so I understand what you are going through!

My husband does the same thing! He goes to the grocery and get stuff that isn’t on my list and then I have to change my supper plans or find room in the freezer. He bought ribs on Monday and I asked what he’s going to do with them. He says put in smoker so maybe he’ll remember tomorrow…. frustrating.

I’m sorry, did you say you dislike shopping? I think your yarn stash is telling a different story.

Shopping online is quick and painless. Walking up and down the aisles of a store looking for something we might need – not so painless. I can get online, order yarn and be done in less than 5 minutes — all while holding on the phone or waiting for meat to brown on the stove. To go shopping means getting dressed, driving 30 minutes to town, at least 30 minutes in a store, driving back home. Even for one item, which it never is, that’s a minimum of a 2 hour interruption in my day. Totally different process.
