This was a first! We’ve caught possums and raccoons in traps but we this afternoon Vince went to get eggs and there were no eggs but there was a possum sleeping in one of the egg boxes.
He was full! It was soft, comfy and quiet in that nesting box. Vince poked him with a stick and tried to get him to get up and run out but he had no interest in leaving on his own.
I told Vince . . it’s a really good thing you were the one getting eggs today because when I open those egg doors, my nose is about 2″ above the boxes and I would have been eyeball to eyeball with him and I would probably have had a heart attack.
I will never open that egg door again without wondering what I’m going to find in there.

That’s still not quite up there with a young possum crawling into bed with you at 1 in the morning!! Hope that never happens again!!!

The other night I opened the door to call the cats in and a possum poked his head around the corner of the house It was like he/she was asking, “Who, me? Do you want me to come in?” I actually said, “No, not you!” Silly I know, but I talk to my cats so why not talk to a possum? LOL

One year, I saw a possum walking in my backyard during the daytime. He found some water to drink and then left the yard. I figured it was sick, so I was not going near the animal.
The next morning, I found him by the trash can, motionless. It took me about 4-6 hours checking on him before I got a shovel and put him in the trash can. Just wanted to make sure he wasn’t playing “possum”.

Sorry but if those were my eggs and my chickens, that would be one dead possum and I don’t care how good they are at eating things we don’t like!! How did it get in? You don’t have a tree anywhere near the fence do you? The LAST time I gathered eggs there was a rat snake in the nest and it had eaten all the eggs! NOPE, nada didn’t do it again!! LOL

So guessing Vince evicted him anyway. Or her. Possums are darned cute, but they can be a nuisance. Raccoons, too. We have both on my little hill area.
