Addie called me yesterday. On Nicole’s contacts, she has pictures for most of us so Addie knows how to call the people she wants to talk to.
Even though I think she’s the cutest, sweetest child, I’ll be the first to admit she can be a bit of a spoiled girl sometimes but when she’s serious, she is hilarious and I can never laugh at her. She’s so dramatic. Here’s our conversation yesterday:
Addie: Granny, I was the Lexia leader for this month!
Me: That’s so good.
Addie: And I got to pick a prize.
Me: What prize did you pick?
Addie: A GOLDEN pencil!
Me: WOW!
Addie: Granny, I was the Lexia leader for this month!
Me: That’s so good.
Addie: And I got to pick a prize.
Me: What prize did you pick?
Addie: A GOLDEN pencil!
Me: WOW! Do you think it’s real gold?
Addie: (In her most serious voice) I don’t know . . but it could be!
Me: I’m so proud to be your grandmother.
Addie: Thanks!
It’s so funny to think of the innocence of a first grader . . a pencil could be REAL gold! Addie knows about gold coins because she and Chad collect coins and they talk about back when coins were gold and the value of gold.
I have to go to town alone soon to get a haircut so I think I’ll get her a gift card for Starbucks or Walmart and send it to her for being the Lexia leader. And for those who may not know, Lexia is a learning app. I’m not sure if they work on it at school but I know she works on it at home.

She is going to be one smart girl when she gets older. I love to see kids so excited about learning! I bet her mom read to her before she was born! I know she reads to her now. That makes kids love to read and with reading she can learn so many new thigs!

What a sweet thing, and how wonderful it is to have cell phones where people don’t have to pay a fortune to call home!
