Last night I knew there was severe weather predicted for east of us. A friend had written me late to ask if we were expecting any bad weather and I told her no, that Comanche, just 30 miles east of us, was supposed to get bad weather but we weren’t even expecting rain. We went to bed about 11, and shortly after midnight, the thunder woke us up. The thunder and lightning was very close, Rita was in a panic so we were all up.
Then the hail started and it was loud on the metal roof. I looked at my tablet to see the radar and that’s when I saw that a tornado had hit the Dallas area. Nighttime tornadoes are even more scary than daytime tornadoes. I’m betting it’s a mess there today with power still out for so many. The selfish girl in me thought (1) Maybe they’ll bring crews over from Missouri to help get the power back on and Chad can be in Dallas and I can go see him and (2) Hope Madelinetosh is ok . . I still have lots of yarn orders out. Seriously, it’s so hard to see pictures of tornado damage and know there are hurting people behind ever bit of damage. Seeing the Home Depot in Dallas destroyed certainly brought back memories of the Joplin tornado where the same thing happened. The last news I saw from Dallas said that so far, no deaths were reported and only a few minor injuries had been treated. Sure hope that news doesn’t change.
We were lucky . . we got .6″ of much needed rain and I don’t even see leaves knocked off the trees from the hail so it sounded worse than it was.
It was at least an hour before we went back to bed so we’re both running a bit behind this morning. We had planned to try to get the garlic planted today but the ground is probably too wet to do much out there. Vince had watered it a bit yesterday so he could till over it one more time before planting. There’s always tomorrow! 🙂

Wow. I hadn’t even heard about this and I have a friend who lives just south of Dallas and works in Dallas. I’m so glad it didn’t come your way.

I heard the rain coming down really hard last night. But when I went to check the rain gauges, there was nothing in either of them! The winds were supposed to have been up to 70 mph. I have not been around town to see if there was any damage.
The area in Dallas is where there are a lot of rich folks living. Was only a short way from President George W. Bush and Laura’s house. They were not hurt and neither was their property. As usual they were more concerned for their neighbors than themselves. I think they said there was a quarter to a million people out of power still. The Preston Hollow area is an exclusive area. We have been through there and know where all the damage was located. We have probably been to that Home Depot. They are still saying no deaths and only a few injuries. Thank God for that! Some of the people they interviewed on TV were so lucky! One of the people reporting was in the storm as well. He said he got his wife, pooch and his child into a closet area and they had pillows and a mattress over them! I don’t think I have ever heard of a tornado hitting in that area before. But I guess it is always a possibility that they can strike anywhere!

I’m glad you’re safe. Praying for those involved in the damage.
