Addie is 7 and just a bit hard headed and wants to do what she wants to do when she wants to do it. She’s a bit more cooperative and does better with listening and doing what she’s asked to do when her parents are not around but sometimes, it’s still a struggle and we usually have one incident where she gets aggravated with me before she realizes that she is going to do what I ask her to do, preferably the first time I ask her to do it.
One night it was bed time for her. We had bought a bag of apples. Addie was sitting at the desk right by the bag of apples and I said “Addie, it’s bed time. Brush your teeth and let’s go read a bit.” She pretended that she had not even heard me, grabbed an apple and took a bite of it. I said “Put the apple down. Go brush your teeth and we are NOT reading a story because you didn’t listen to me!”
She put the apple down, brushed her teeth and went to bed. I had planned to eat the apple but I guess Vince put it back in the bag because today, he got himself an apple out of the fruit bowl and he said “What the heck?”
I reminded him about Addie taking a bite out of the apple when I asked her to go to bed! It kinda made me sad seeing her little mouth print on that apple.

Reading about Addie and apples – were you able to get your password back and get into your computer. I think I remember that you have several PCs so you might be using a backup one.

You have to be consistent and you have to mean business if you want them to do the right things, so that’s why she’s learning to make good choices with you. It will carry over to other things, as time goes on.
