Saturday evening I had on my t-shirt that has the Texas flag on it. Addie looked at it and said “Does Texas just have ONE star?” I explained to her that Texas is called the Lone Star State. I didn’t go into the reasons why it was called the Lone Star State but simply told her the “lone” star on our flag represents the Lone Star State.
Addie: Hmm . . that’s pretty wimpy. One star.
Me: How many stars does the MO flag have?
Addie: 12
Me: Nope . . it has 24 stars. Do you know why?
Addie: 24 is better than 1.
Me: Well, it’s because MO was the 24th state in the United States.
Addie: What number was Texas?
Me: Number 28 . . and you know what else?
Addie: What?
Me: Girls from Texas are just a little bit better!
Addie: That’s just a song and it is NOT true!
Me: Watch it girl! You’re talking to a girl from Texas!
Thanks Pat Green for that song. I love it. Every time I cross the Red River, I think “Once you cross that Red River, hoss, you’ll stay there forever.” I wish it wasn’t so darned true but it does seem to be a fact.

Great song, considering I have lived in TX for 30 plus years and never heard it before. Sorry you have to head home, but glad Vince was along and you both got to have the fun of grandchildren. Mine live close since I gave up my old home and moved to DFW. It still gets me excited the days I drive to visit, babysit, or stay the night. Those are the days I smile all the way on my 20 minute drive.

Lone Star State Texas has a huge star on it. It was a country all by itself for about 10 years, wasn’t it? Then Texas agreed to join the United States. Texas looks about as big as France.

I loved growing up in west Texas. There’s certainly lots of space there. As with most places, it’s changing, though.

I think you are correct in your description here! Texas has everything! It has the piney woods, the gulf shores, the mountains, the rolling plains, the desert and so much more! Why would anyone ever want to live anywhere else! Except for one sharp little girl!!
