As long as I live, I’ll never see or hear a duck call, or a real duck for that matter, without thinking of Chad practicing his duck calling in his bedroom and driving me crazy.
That video was taken in 2010. The door to Chad’s room was right off my sewing room.
Nowadays, Chad is making duck calls and selling them!
The one on the left is purple heart. The one on the right is osage orange.
This one is lignum vitae, which is one of the densest woods in the world.
This is an example of why, as parents, sometimes we have to find a way to laugh at the things our kids do. Had I flipped out about those horrible sounds continuously coming from his bedroom, that might have soured him on his love for duck calls.
I’m proud of him for finding ways to be creative, despite working long hours at job that requires hard work, being a dad and a husband and for being a good person!

Those look great!
When my oldest was around 5 my dad gave her a toy duck call. She would talk into the duck call thinking it actually translated what she was saying into something the ducks would understand! Ha!

That is such a cute story! I guess it makes sense that she would think that.

That’s too funny! Who would ever have imagined he would turn it into money making? LOL

I have always heard the Osage/Bois d’arc trees have the most beautiful wood and now I know they do! These are too pretty to use! I love the woods!!
