Still Unsure About Yarn

Normally, I do not struggle with decisions such as which yarn to use. I guess I’m not 100% happy with the Madelinetosh DK choice. I like it but I keep second guessing myself.

I had swatched using the larger needles and the cable pattern that was suggested for swatching and it came out exact using one size smaller needle than the recommended size.

Last night, I was reading through the pattern. This pattern is so different from a typical, easy sweater pattern so I decided to try knitting a bit of the section with the smaller needles. For that section, they suggested 3.5 mm needles so I tried knitting with 3.25 mm because I’m a loose knitter and I know I almost always have to go down.

It’s pretty but I feel like it’s just too tight and too dense with the 3.25 mm needles so today I tried the same section using the 3.5 mm needles.

The fabric doesn’t seem so tight and dense with the 3.5 mm needles so if I use this yarn, I’ll stick with the 3.5 mm needle.

Because I’m still not convinced this is the right yarn for this project, I knitted with a couple of others.

This is a yarn I’ve had for a very long time. I think it’s a yarn that’s been discontinued. I like how it feels. I like how it knits but I think it’s too dark for these cables to really show up like they do on a lighter yarn.

I tried one other yarn, which is a yarn I had ordered earlier this year for this project.

This is Squoosh Ultra DK. I also only have 1800 yards of it. I had ordered it before reading that people were running out of yarn. This yarn is still available and I can get more of it if I decide this is the one I want to use.

I’ll rip all these pieces out and sometime between now and October 1, I’ll decide exactly what I’m going to do.

I’m going back to working on the little girl’s sweater to match the doll sweater and not thinking about this yarn any more for a few days!
