This morning Vince tackled the third jackfruit and he said he isn’t buying another one. Right! 🙂
This one was the stickiest of all of them. Even putting the fruit in bags, I had to use rubbing alcohol to get all the sticky off.
Hard at work!
These things remind me so much of a big old leg bone off an animal.
Vince said this one had more sticky and less “connective tissue”. This was the largest one we’ve had so far. We got four gallon zipper bags of fruit – not bad, even though they’re expensive and hard to clean. Not so hard for me . . since Vince does all the work.

I think they’re growing jackfruit in the U.S. now, and that’s why they’re more widely available here. I tried one for the first time this year and loved it! My husband not so much, though, and they make the whole house smell (good!). I’d like to get another one.

After your first post about jackfruit, I did a little searching for it. I still don’t know what store I might find it in, but I did find it on restaurant menus!

Rebecca, I don’t know where in So Cal you are but my Vons has jackfruit both whole and sliced in the produce area. Also I have seen it at Ralphs (whole) and I think I just saw it at Sprouts.

Sounds like a plan to me!!

I don’t think it will ever make it to Maine, I’ve never heard of it. Now I’m intrigued!

As long as he’s willing to do it. I wouldn’t be, and I don’t know what it tastes like, so I’m okay with that. Pomegranates are a lot of work and I love pomegranate syrup. My dad used to peel them and cook them and make the syrup – lots of work, which I don’t do – and he always gave me lots, so I miss that. Just not enough to do it. =) Paul used to do the prickley pear fruit. I miss that, too, but not enough to steal the fruit from my down-the-street neighbor and make it, either. I think I’m just lazy. =)
