My knitting needle collection was totally out of control. I have a Rubbermaid type bucket that I keep all my interchangeable sets in and then my loose fixed cable needles just get tossed in there when I’m finished with them. When I need a certain size, I start digging. Say I need a 4.0 mm with a 24″ cable. It’s a mess and the needles are all tangled up. Even the needles from my interchangeable sets, instead of separating the tips from the cables and putting them back in their appropriate set, I had been just throwing them in the tub to get all tangled with the other needles.
Last night I was looking for a certain size, went digging and told myself . . you HAVE to find a better way.
This morning Vince said he needed to run to Walmart. Surprised the heck out of him when I said “Wait, I’ll go with you!” I was thinking of getting the hard plastic pencil boxes – the ones that are skinnier than the cigar boxes we used to use when I was a kid. Walmart only had two of those left so I ended up going with these pouches.
There are still needles all over the place and I’ll be finding the for days but at least for now, the tote is all neat – no more loose needles. All the needles that are part of a set have been put back with their appropriate sets.
I used the metal rings to keep them together, instead of putting them in a big binder.
Those little purple bags were marked down to 50 cents each. Can’t beat that.
Let’s hope I continue to replace the needles as I finish with them and don’t end up with a big mess again but . . I know how I am and, therefore, am not optimistic.

Now those are cool! Keep them in your big needle bin, and maybe you’ll use them! They’ll be right there to see!

Looks like the perfect solution! And yep, I’ll bet Vince was surprised that you wanted to go! LOL!

I completely understand your dilemma. I do the same thing sometimes!

I was told about a fishing lure zippered sachtel thingie (I think that is what it is called) that Bass Pro Shops sell and I bought that. It’s a zippered case with zippered pockets/pages inside and they are on double rings. They also sell the extra “pages” for more storage. It all zips closed and you can flip through the individual baggies to find the ones needed. I’d post a photo for others to see but I don’t think comments allow that.

Just got off Amazon and ordered 10 of the pouches. I’ve been using gallon size plastic bags, but those will be so much better. Thanks for the idea.

I put mine in one pouch per size, as I don’t have sets like you do. I have put an index card in each pouch of what I own, so that I can keep track of things. I store them in two big binders in my handwork room. Best investment ever.

And labeled, too! That does look tidy.
