Several years ago, a friend gave me a recipe for Golden Milk. It’s made with coconut milk, turmeric, ginger, black pepper, coconut oil and cinnamon. It can be sweetened with honey, maple syrup or an artificial sweetener. I have some “maple syrup” with artificial sweetener that I’m not crazy about but it works just fine in this recipe.
You can find the recipe I used here and also read about the supposed health benefits.
I make extra and keep it in the fridge, spoon out a little and heat it up and sip a cup of golden milk. It isn’t something I’ll have every day while trying to lose weight but I’ll have it a couple of times a week.

I’ve never had it with maple syrup, but I’m not a huge fan of the stuff, so if I sweetened it I’d use a little honey. I don’t usually sweeten it at all, though. I’ve made it a few times at home, but I’ve never thought to make extra like that. I saw a recipe by Prevention Magazine recently for a Golden Milk Paste that can be refrigerated and doled out into more milk as needed, though. It looked like something I might try, so I saved it to Pinterest. I’m sure a search there would turn it up.
Last time we were in San Antonio, there was a little cafe that sold it. When my friends and I passed by it in the mornings, I’d stop for a warm cup. They thought I was crazy, but I love it! Then in the hot afternoons after a day of indulging in rich foods and drink, I would grab a cold bottle of ginger and lemon kombucha from the same little cafe. I was glad to find that place!
Golden milk is great for you and I highly recommend it to anybody who hasn’t tried it!

The Golden Milk is one of those things that when I first drink it after having no had it for a while, I’m not crazy about it but then I keep wanting more.

I just looked at the recipe you used, and it includes a Golden Milk Paste recipe, too! Is that what you did? It looks like a jar of pre-made milk, but you did say you’d spoon it out – maybe if it was entirely pre-made, you’d be pouring it….
Judy Laquidara says
I didn’t do the paste this time. I’ve done it before and I can never get it not to be grainy. The turmeric tends to be grainy anyway but I thought if I mixed it in there, heated it, let it cool and kept it in the fridge, maybe it won’t seem so grainy. I’ve grown turmeric before and probably should do it again and maybe using fresh would help with the graininess.

I have never heard of this but will look it up now for sure. I learn so many new things here.

So is that something you put a spoonful in regular milk, or what?
Judy Laquidara says
The last time I made this, I made the paste and then stirred a spoonful into the milk when I was ready to drink it but this time, I made it up – ready to heat and drink and it should be good for 5 – 7 days..

Is this something that could be used as a healthy coffee creamer?
Judy Laquidara says
You would have to use heavy cream instead of almond milk but I’m not sure about putting turmeric and black pepper in coffee. I’m not a coffee drinker but would recommend doing research or just sprinkling a little turmeric and black pepper in a cup of coffee one morning to see how that tastes. Personally, I think you’d be better off drinking the Golden Milk separately but I don’t know.
Judy H says
Pamela C – I am not a huge coffee drinker, but I may have 1-3 cups a week. I wouldn’t think it would be good in coffee. I don’t usually use cream, either, tho. When I have coffee I use some dark cocoa powder and a packet of monkfruit. It gives it a mocha flavor without adding fat, and provides antioxidants from the chocolate as well as the coffee. I recommend drinking the Golden Milk separately. Try it! ?
