This morning I walked by the mesquite tree and noticed this guy in there.

The wind was blowing the branch and I had a hard time getting a sharp photo. I love seeing these.

I feel sorry for them . . this is such a hard place to live but they probably feel sorry for me too. ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t feel sorry for the black widows, brown recluses and scorpions.

I’ve never seen a brown praying mantis…all I’ve ever seen in NY or PA are green so they blend in very well with anything they’re on. Maybe that’s why that one is brown…Texas has a lot more brown in the landscape than green!! ๐Ÿ™‚

There’s a lot of brown here, too, but the praying mantis I saw on my kitchen window was green. It was the first time I saw one not from the side. I hadn’t realized they have a broad, leaf-shaped abdomen!

50+ years ago, I worked in a 25 story building. Can’t remember which floor, think it was probably 9th. We used to see them on the windows. I always wondered how high they went.

I am with you. I love seeing these things! We sometimes called them walking sticks, but those are a little different from the praying mantis, Same family I think.

Oh, is he ever nicely camouflaged! Great shot, Judy.
