Sybil is correct – a few months back, Vince did choose yarn for a sweater. It’s a pullover and even though he says he likes pullovers better, I think men look better in cardigans. To me, cardigans are so much more wearable because (1) We just don’t get enough warm weather here to put on a pullover and wear it without smothering. (2) If you gain or lose any amount of weight, cardigans can still look ok. Some boxy type pullovers do too but for the most part, pullovers kinda need to halfway fit.
What I was wanting to do was surprise him with an outstandingly gorgeous sweater that he didn’t know I was making but, Wanda is correct — the best thing to do is check with him before making it so . . I did.
I showed it to him. I know I have an “over the top” love for cables and not everyone drools on their keyboard every time they see a project that has cables but . . that’s just me. So, I showed him the pattern and said “Would you wear this?” Here’s the pattern for Classic Oak Cardigan if you want to see it.
Here’s what he said:
- I don’t like the big fluffy collar. I showed him other pictures of the sweaters that had been made and the collar easily will lay down flat or I wouldn’t have to make it so wide.
- I don’t like buttons! He means he likes pullovers better. I explained how easy it is to put on and take off a cardigan if you’re somewhere and get warm.
The best part: He then said “I guess if we move to Missour ..”, then he realized what he was saying and finished by saying . . “If we move somewhere that it gets cold, I guess I’d wear it.” I can definitely vote in favor of moving to Missouri.
This morning we were sitting eating breakfast and I remembered the yarn I needed to find. There are several tubs stored in an extra bedroom here so I went to those. The yarn was in the third tub I opened. Yay!
The color is Charcoal Gray. I went ahead and ordered the remaining 6 skeins I’d need to make this sweater. I’ll think about it til the yarn arrives and I make sure it’s a good match. It was nice needing to only order 6 skeins instead of 15 but it’s kind of a waste if I don’t make the sweater. So .. probably I’ll make it.

I love that sweater and the yarn color. I think it is a perfect Vince sweater. He will love it and wear it even though he is critical looking at a picture. Tell him all the ladies voted it the Vince sweater with buttons!

I just read your comment to him . . no additional comment from him.

I love that sweater and the yarn color. It would look very very nice on Vince. Just because a sweater has buttons doesn’t mean they have to be buttoned 🙂
Judy Laquidara says
Exactly what I told him. I never button my cardigans.
Cindi says
Have you thought about a sleeveless cardigan, I guess you would call it a vest. My husband has one he wears in the house a lot during the winter. I wonder if Vince thinks of a pullover as more masculine?
Judy Laquidara says
I don’t know about the masculine part . . is that true? What do y’all think? I never thought about it. A vest is an option too. Thanks!
Teri says
I don’t know about that masculine part– but how about a zipper?? Like the fleece jackets that are popular; they don’t have to be zipped either:)
Jean says
That color is SO masculine! 🙂

LOVE the yarn. So sorry, I think the cables are too much in this sweater. Really, sorry!! I know you love cables.
Judy Laquidara says
No! Say you’re joking! 🙂
sandinthewindowsills says
Sorry, but I don’t like the big collar either. Can’t you find a pattern with cables but without a big collar. And yes, I think a vest would be a great option.
Judy Laquidara says
In the projects made by others, the collar isn’t standing up so much but laying flat. Making the collar smaller is very easy – kinda like making a skirt shorter or longer when sewing.
Nelle Coursey says
I love the pattern and I think he will too once he sees it finished! The yarn is very pretty also. Very manly.
Judy Laquidara says
It would be so fun!
dezertsuz says
He doesn’t have to button it. It’s a nice sweater. Because you are on the keto diet, and he’s already lost a lot, it’s probably better for right now to make the cardigan, but I wouldn’t rule out making a pullover, either. If Vince liked it, he would wear it even if is baggy!
