It’s been a terrible week for the diet – the anniversary dinner with Italian food, with pasta, bread and dessert started it; then pizzelles . . and I can’t even remember what else.
Today Vince said “I’d love some focaccia bread”.
I made half the recipe. It was delicious. We’ve had our focaccia and now, we are back on the diet, though we’re talking about having one “forbidden” item every Saturday if we’ve been very strict and dedicated to the diet all week. I’m not sure I like that idea but have til next Saturday to think about it.

I was just reading a magazine article that suggests you can lose more weight by eating keto for 5 days followed by 2 days of including carbs. It suggests selecting carbs like under ripe bananas, papayas and mangoes which are high in resistant starch. It also said to cut back on fat and increase your protein a bit on the days you include carbs. Just something to consider.

I’ve read that too but we did so good on it when we were doing it every day. Vince lost about 75 pounds in 5 months and I lost 35. I’m afraid if we aren’t doing it every day . . as a way of life, it will be harder for us to stick with it but we’ll see.

Many years ago I did the Body for Life plan which called for six days of a prescribed diet and one cheat day. You could eat anything you wanted on that day, and at first I would begin planning days in advance what I would eat. I missed so many things! About a month in I found I still looked forward to the cheat day but it wasn’t as compelling.

I’ve seen some recommend a cheat day for keto but it takes me several days to get into ketosis and, depending on the numbers, eating something high in carbs once may or may not knock me out of ketosis and then, it takes several days to get back into ketosis so for me, the cheat days just aren’t worth it. There are plenty of good, and satisfying foods I can eat and stay in ketosis. I don’t crave much . . except for Dr. Pepper, and it has no redeeming value so I try to avoid it. Also, eating fewer carbs and way less refined sugar helps my joints feel better, my digestion is better and the “cheat” foods just aren’t worth it for me.
