The Pie Iron

Previous Post
Dear Blog Readers,

You people! You so easily get me in trouble . . want vs. need; need vs. want!

The discussion about the pie irons and camping and now two of these are on their way to us.

After reading of the things other made with them – pizza (bread, sauce, pepperoni and cheese); banana, peanut butter, chocolate sandwiches — I was thinking these would be great for camping or sitting around the fire on a winter night (they could also be used with the fireplace if we were careful).

I checked at Walmart online and the one I liked there didn’t have great reviews. I found this one at Gander, and a discount code popped up so even with shipping, it was a few dollars less for two than buying them at Amazon.

I’m betting I can buy some for Chad at Academy when I’m in Joplin. I think they’ll really love them since they camp a lot.

I’ve always thought that the words “want” and “need” were the same to a quilter or knitter.

Need? Vince has brainwashed you. ROFL!!!! You know I’m kidding. There is a very fine line between the 2. (Cil, going into witness protection so Vince can’t find me).

Argh! We have (and use often) our campfire pie iron, but I’m now debating the want/need of your pizzelle maker. My old electric one is ready to croak! ๐Ÿ™‚

We never used that camping for some reason – probably Paul’s Boy Scout units never did! We had foil wrapped dinners, though. My grandmother made fried apricot pies, but she use a biscuit rolled out, folded over and friend … probably in lard! They were the best things ever! This sounds easier, though. =)

We used something similar when our family camped when I was a kid, except ours were round. The square shape makes more sense if you’re using it with bread slices! We called them Tonka toasters.

I’m going to have to pull ours out – I haven’t used them in years, but next time I fire up the grill, I’m going to have to make dessert, too!!

Now I need to get one for my boys when they camp with scouts.
