Yesterday I had my annual blood work done. I wish I had done it before we had been off the diet for a month. We just got back to being committed to the diet so I feel certain my results would have been better two months ago but I’m pretty happy with it.
I was very pleased with my glucose level. In July, 2018, it was 124. Yesterday, it was 84.
Even though my cholesterol was not great and the doctor wants it down more, it was much better than it was last year. Last year, total cholesterol was 256, LDL was 150 and HDL was 57. Yesterday, total cholesterol was 219 (down 37 points!), LDL was 139 and HDL was 51. Triglycerides were high – 268. I have some work to do there. I have to exercise, eat right, lose more weight and go back in three months and have the blood checked again.
The thyroid levels were not so good! In 2018, the TSH was 1.92. Yesterday it was 5.4. She called in an Rx for thyroid meds and that will also be re-checked in three months. Honestly, I think there’s something going on with the thyroid. Three times now, since about 2000, I’ve been told I was hypothyroid and took meds. When I’d go back for another check, the levels had changed enough that they’d either reduce the dosage or take me off it. Three times that has happened. I do have thyroid nodules, have had two thyroid ultrasounds and have another one scheduled in a couple of months. I will see the thyroid doc the same day I have the ultrasound and see what he has to say about all this.
I have some work to do but I think I have a good idea how to get the cholesterol under control without meds. The thyroid – that’s a bit of a mystery but I think I’ll know more after seeing the specialist in September.
I’m pretty happy that the glucose, and cholesterol levels are down — just a bit lower and I’ll be happy. Those triglycerides . . I’ll get those down too.

I also had trouble with cholesterol and spent years on statin drugs with no improvement. My good cholesterol was 2 and my triglycerides were so high they couldn’t analyze them. Finally my doctor said to try to take 4 grams a day of omega 3 fatty acid and it worked fantastic! I’ve been off statins for 5 years now and my cholesterol is totally normal. Sam’s club has a great omega 3 that is very concentrated and also mint flavor.

Heather Sedlacek—-Is the omega 3 that you get from Sam’s Club one of these?

Man, Judy, we could almost be twins!!!! When I had blood work done in Feb my cholesterol was high. I told my dr I would not go on statins. Been there, done that and didn’t like the side effects. She suggested I take red yeast rice, a supplement. Last week I repeated the blood work and all cholesterol numbers were in normal range!!!
I have thyroid modules, too. But my numbers on that test always is considered normal. I’ve been told I’m hypo but never any meds. Im thinking of seeing a new dr for that. My endocrinologist in Ohio wanted me to just have my thyroid removed. As long as it’s still functioning I don’t really think that’s a good option. I will fight to keep it based on my own research.

We all have our opinions, especially if something works for us. Mine is that I went from 238 to 190 in cholesterol by not eating meat, eggs, and milk products, although I could have skim milk and egg whites and fish twice a month. It works for me, choose what works well for you. Yoga is a good start for exercise and not hard on the joints. I went from being stiff and achy to flexible, strong, and have wonderful balance. I hope you find your perfect balance in eating and exercise.

One problem with thyroid meds could be taking a generic. Doctors are not convinced about that but my cousin, a nurse, had that problem. Just a heads-up.

So impressive! Not only eating healthy, but also going to the Dr. when you aren’t even sick! Wonder Woman…

The thyroid is such a little PIA, I’ve been on medication for 20 years, for the last 10 it’s been stable, just got my blood work back and now the meds are making it too active so they are cutting my dose. Hope they figure out what is going on with yours.

Looks like you are doing all the right things!

It takes time to get the levels down when they’ve been so high. Great going!
