I’m one of those lucky ones who falls asleep the minute my head hits the pillow and I never wake up even once during the night. My normal bedtime is around midnight and I wake up on my own about 5 a.m. most mornings. There are the occasional mornings when I wake up at 8 a.m. but then Mother Nature has won our game because she was up (sun was up) before I was up and the first one to wake up . . that’s the winner for the day.
But, if something happens and I wake up even once during the night, my whole night of sleep seems to have been worthless. I’m tired and grumpy the next day. I’ve always been that way. Chad started sleeping through the night when he was about 4 weeks old. I always said that he interrupted my sleep more as a teen than he did as a baby.
Another time I cannot sleep is when I have to do something in the morning. It used to be if we were taking a trip – like going to Missouri . . then I had a hard time falling asleep and would wake up during the night . . a night when I needed sleep the most and I couldn’t fall asleep. Now, it’s gotten to where anything as simple as going to the grocery store “in the morning” and I cannot fall asleep.
This morning, we had to be dressed and ready to leave the house at 8 a.m. so, I went to bed about 11, hoping to fall asleep early. Nope!
First, I took Rita out and could tell she was about to do #2, when she stepped on a grass bur. I got it out of her foot but that was it . . all she wanted to do was go back to the house. I picked her up and carried her to four or five different locations, thinking maybe she’d forget about the grass bur, but no, that wasn’t happening. We went back inside and I knew what was going to happen. I went to bed and at 1 a.m., I was still not asleep. That’s the last time I remember looking at the clock.
Then, . . 3:30 a.m. she had to go out. She did her business and I went back to bed. Then again at 4:30, she wanted to go out again and once again, she did her business. I guess I went right back to sleep. I asked Vince to be sure I was awake by 7 but I kept waking up to see if it was daylight out . . we don’t keep clocks or phones in the bedroom. I usually have my tablet but had left it in the kitchen on the charger. So, when Vince came back in and said “It’s 7”, all I wanted to do was go back to sleep . . but I didn’t.
It isn’t even 9 p.m. yet and I’m ready to go to bed. I doubt I could go to sleep if I went to bed this early but I surely do feel like I could sleep.
I’m so thankful I’m a good sleeper . . I’d hate to go through this every night/day.

Oh, I know what you mean by not sleeping well before a trip! I purposely take a full sleeping pill (one I know will work) the night before I fly. Usually it helps me at least doze off for several hours. Otherwise I sometimes take just a half pill when I am still awake at 1am, having gone to bed two hours earlier.
The last two days I woke up at 5:30am, lay there for half an hour, then got up and worked on projects. I think I like this ability! Today I cleared out my medical file! Now we can get folders in and out of that file drawer much easier.

I love my sleep, since closing the store my goal was to wake at my own pace but then I got two kittens. I’m still waiting to sleep in, this morning was 5am, I’ve been grumpy all day.

That happens to me when I know I need to sleep because I have a long drive to the Nashville temple. Invariably, I get a short night’s sleep! It sounds like you did have a profitable, day, though.

Sometimes I read until around 1:30 or 2. Then I get up around 8 or 8:30. If I have to get up earlier, I have a travel alarm clock that I set. One day last week I did not get up until 11 am! I think I was really, really tired that day!!
