It’s been two weeks since the spider bite. I finished all the antibiotics, even though every one I took, I said it was going to be my last. They made me feel so bad. I was still taking the Florastor probiotic and had thought about not ordering more but after knowing I was going to be taking antibiotics again, I was glad I had ordered more. They are expensive but they do make a huge difference in the way my stomach feels – especially when taking meds.
The joint on my finger is still very swollen and very store. Even barely touching the keys on the Chromebook hurts. Knitting is worse. There’s the one spot I’m still watching. You can barely see it in the picture but it’s on the right side at the base of my nail.
So long as the redness doesn’t get any worse, I suppose there’s no use going back to the doctor. Hoping time will make it all better.

Have you tried manukau honey? It has literally saved my life twice . I ordered my last from amazon. I’m in New Zealand and will definetly be caring some home.

Never heard of it but I’ve ordered some. Will be here tomorrow. Thanks!

Use the honey on the wound, bite or infection. It is great in tea but I don”t know if it works if taken internally. It is used in hospitals in New Zealand and even some USA hospitals. My orthopedic surgeon is amazed by it. Use a bandage that is non stick. My neurosurgeon was quite impressed by the effect it had on cellulitis on an accessed incision. It keeps forever. I am a below the knee amputee due to an auto accident. Antibiotics cost me my hearing.

I see different brands of manukau honey, Pat. Which one do you use? TU

It’s always difficult when you have issues with your hands. It makes it so hard to do things we love. All I can say is, “Good luck with that! It doesn’t get better with age!” I dread the day it will hurt too bad to do hand sewing…I really enjoy applique and would hate to give it up. (I have arthritis in almost every joint in my body…)

I’ve been thinking the past few days that this is probably a lot like arthritis and I’m hoping it goes away and doesn’t stick around. I know it has to be painful to live with arthritis. I’m sorry for your pain and lack of being able to do the things you want to do.

As long as the redness is subsiding, the antibiotics are doing their job. The problem with a lot of antibiotics is that they kill all bacteria in you gut and bloodstream, pathogenic (bad) and even the good (like all of the probiotics). To get the beneficial effects, one should wait about 4 days after taking the last antibiotic dose. By then you can safely repopulate your digestive tract with the “good bacteria” from the probiotic and not just kill them (a real waste) in the process.
It may take your body as much as a couple of more weeks to totally flush the inflammation out of the soft tissue near your nail. Nimble knitting capability will return…give it time.
A tip…
If you find a spider on your hand, brush it off with your other hand. Don’t try to smash it. Smashing triggers the bite reflex even as they die. A swishing motion to remove the offender does not. Obviously this does not work if you are asleep and get bit.

I finished the antibiotics a week ago and the doctor told me to watch it, even while taking the antibiotics for more or spreading redness. Also, it was the doctor who suggested taking probiotics while taking antibiotics. It may be a bit of a waste of money as far as how many probiotics survive but it really helped my tummy.

Still looks painful after 2 weeks 🙁 Please let us know if the honey brings any results.

I’m interested in the honey effect, too. I am eaten alive (feet, ankles and sometimes knees) every June with bug bites, generally mosquitoes and gnats that thrive that month in Tennessee. I wind up scratching until I scab and then getting scars – and they still itch for days! I would try the honey on the scratch places to see if it helps with healing them.
