Last week, I was out checking figs . . another story . . and as I walked by the mesquite tree, I thought that limb has never been that low before! I know I walked under it just a couple of days before but it was now almost to the ground. I looked at it and couldn’t see that it was broken but knew it had to be split from the tree.
I went inside and asked Vince:
Me: Have you noticed that limb on the mesquite tree is almost touching the ground?
Vince: No.
Me: Have you been able to go under with the lawn mower?
Vince: Yes.
Me: Then it must have just happened.
Vince: I haven’t noticed anything different.
Vince passes that tree every day going out to feed and water the chickens.
Yesterday, about four days after I asked him about it, we were walking into the house and he glanced over there. In his colorful Italian language, he said a few choice words I will not repeat and “Look at that limb! It must have broken!”
I said “Yep, I was thinking the same thing” . . end of conversation about the mesquite tree.
Limb is cut and we have mesquite for the smoker. In my opinion, mesquite goes a very long way in the smoker so we either use it sparingly or not at all so that limb is about a lifetime supply of mesquite for us.
