Probably one of the worst jobs in the world would be to be our realtor. We finally have one that we can work with. We like her and she’s funny and . . she’s on the ball! The other day, she sent us an email and this is the first part of it.
Vince told her we’ll come “home” (back to Arkansas) when she finds us a house!
The problem for buyers in that area is that houses are listed and within 24 hours, they’re sold. That’s great for the sellers and tells us it’s a good place to go but I kinda wish we’d bought a house before half the country decided that’s where they want to live.
We’ve totally changed what we’re asking her to find. There aren’t a whole lot of houses that fit what we want, mainly because there aren’t a ton of basements in that area. Vince wants to either have a pool or be on the water. All I want is a gas stove! Really, I want to be in the woods away from people . . not on the water where there’s people all summer long.
Last week, we kept talking about it and decided maybe we should look for a 2 bedroom/2 bath cabin type place on the water. Go ahead and get that, have a place to stay when we go on the real house search but we won’t have to find a house on the water or with a pool, because we’ll already have that. Bring Rita. Bring Boots . . stay a month or so, look at everything we can find while we’re there. Then, we’ll keep the small house on the lake as a vacation home, even though it’s maybe 30 minutes to an hour from our home. And, when Chad and Nicole visit or want to come stay for a week, they can stay at the cabin and we’ll all get to visit but not all be in the same house.
Yesterday, I found a cabin on the river. It had only been on the market four hours. Knowing it wouldn’t last long, Vince called the realtor. This was the perfect cabin! The owners stay there about 4 months each year and it’s used as a VRBO the rest of the year. They’re selling it with all the furniture, dishes, pots, pans, forks, spoons – everything.
Vince asked the realtor if she was familiar with the area. She said “Let me get the disclosure and I’ll email it to you.” I could tell she was not saying “It’s perfect!” Yep . . 2015 flood, it had water in it. She said “That was the 100 year flood.” But, there’s no guarantee it will be 100 years before it happens again. So, another promising possibility isn’t to be.
Then, there’s a resort near the place we stayed. I think it has 5 cabins, 9 condos, a game room, a boat dock and a pool Vince said “the lake and the pool”! I said NO WAY! I have not one bit of desire to run a place like that.
Trying to find a house is such a roller coaster.

I can relate to that. Maybe you just need to stay where you are and build a pool!! LOL Or find a lot and build whatever you want.

What we’ve noticed in our search is rising prices and lack of availability. If we like one we need to have the realtor in our hip pocket. Can’t remember when I’ve seen real estate snapped up like this. We’ve even talked about staying where we are. Best of luck!

You’re absolutely right about the roller coaster – doesn’t matter what house you want or where you want it, it’s definitely a ride. Your house is out there, though. You’ll find it.

Nothing wrong with your vacation home being near your primary residence. Ours are 2h 20 apart. One city, one mountains. Love the flexibility! You will too!

What happens to Cat when you leave?

We have had 3 hundred year floods in the last 4-5 years. And I was wondering about Cat also.

I am going to miss the stories about TX when you leave. I love your property with the garden, orchard, outbuildings, long lane, chicken house, etc. I am sure your new place will be just as amazing. Best of luck in finding your new place at the perfect time.
