Sometimes it takes spending time with friends for Vince to see that he’s a lucky man. Those are my words . . not his! When we were at Hobby Lobby yesterday, he was giving me a hard time about what I bought which was only about $40 but it was about $38 more than he thought I should have spent. The checker was a young man and I’m not sure he realized Vince was joking. The checker was probably telling his friends “This man was giving his wife a hard time about spending $40 and she thought he was joking and I don’t think he was joking!” Anyway, Vince told the guy . . I have to keep her! It would cost me too much to get rid of her! He was joking so please don’t anyone get offended. But, it’s true. I always tell him . . if we split up, I get 75% and you get 25% because I’ve put up with you all these years.
Anyway, when we were with our friends the other day, we were talking about the house we had found in Arkansas and we didn’t get it mainly because the kitchen was too small. My friend has a huge kitchen and she rarely cooks. She said “I was just thinking your kitchen now looks fine to me and I think my kitchen is way too big!” Then, her husband started . . he said the only things she ever cooks are Cornish hens and chicken wings so he goes into the kitchen to see if either are out to defrost. He said by about 3:00 p.m., if there’s nothing out, he will say “Is tonight a Pizza Hut night?” and she will say “Sounds good to me?” I think there are way more Pizza Hut nights than there are cook at home nights but they’re happy with it so it doesn’t bother me. I’ve never had Pizza Hut when I ate at their house!
But, Vince walked into the kitchen the other night and didn’t see anything out. He said “Is tonight a Pizza Hut night?” and I said “Sounds good to me!” I think things work differently at some people’s houses from how they work at our house! I laughed and told him no . . I had a boneless leg of lamb I was going to roast and those don’t take long to cook.
We had roasted leg of lamb, okra, coleslaw and tomatoes. Way better than going out.
Honestly, I’d rather cook and eat at home than go out and we can’t get pizza delivery out here . . not that I’d want it most of the time anyway.
So, not only would it be expensive to get rid of me but he’d sure miss my cooking!

I’m drooling over the okra. How’d you cook it? FINALLY found some decent looking okra at the store yesterday.

Me too. The deer are destroying everything in our garden, so doesn’t look like I will even have tomatoes this summer.

You know he would miss you! You have spoiled him! I don’t know any woman who would do what you do for their husbands! I cook and we occasionally eat out. But he doesn’t like vegetables other than Black eyed peas, red beans and potatoes. So that lets me out on cooking a lot of things I like. I love broccoli, cauliflower and all sorts of things but he will not eat them!

Can I send my husband to your house? It would sure free up some sewing time for me and he does love to eat more than I like to cook.

He is a lucky man. =)

My husband is often offering to take me out to dinner, but I like to cook, and prefer to eat at home. He has become a pretty good cook as well, especially when I am deep into my latest project, either quilting or knitting! When friends ask for recommendations for local restaurants, we have none!

The other night, I blew up the garbage disposal (the pipe disconnected, leaking water and greens under the sink and onto the kitchen floor) when I was fixing dinner. By the time we got it cleaned up, I didn’t feel like continuing to cook. John suggested pizza, but that really didn’t appeal. We went out for Thai. That’s a big reason I like living in a city…lots of dining choices. I certainly don’t cook for my husband like you do for Vince!
You’re conversation about splitting up make me laugh. You two seem well suited. But *ahem* who puts up with whom?? 😉
