Eat, Sleep, Knit’s third quarter begins Monday. Really . . I guess EVERYONE’s third quarter begins Monday but that’s when we can begin working on our projects for the third quarter. To be honest, I’ve lost interest in playing knitting games after the fiasco at Ravelry. I haven’t lost interest in knitting, thank goodness, but the social aspect of knitting, which I had enjoyed before all this, has dwindled. There are new groups popping up and there are groups on Facebook but there’s a lot of hatefulness and bitterness out there. I wish politics had just stayed out of this. Exclusiveness, racism, white supremacy . . none of that has a place in anything, especially not in anyone’s heart, or, in a knitting group but neither does politics . . in my opinion.
As far as the Yarnathon, I think once I finish and submit my 2nd quarter projects, I’ll have the points needed for the max prize and I’ll be done. Because I do like the projects I had planned for the third quarter, I’m going to go ahead and do them . . at some point, but probably not in conjunction with the yarnathon.
The yarn is Blue Sky Fiber’s Organic Cotton Worsted. That’s a yarn I’ve never used before and am anxious to try. Cotton is a much better choice for our climate and even when we move to a colder climate, they still have spring and fall. The pattern is a V-neck pullover, a bit oversized. The color of this yarn is Drift and I debated about using such a light color. Cat hair; dog hair; spills . . but it will go with most anything I wear so . . Drift it shall be.
My goal today is to do the swatch, soak and block it; make sure I have the right gauge, then put the needles and the yarn together and this can be a project for road trips. There’s a lot of plain stockinette knitting. I’ll keep the project handy til I’m sure I’ve gotten all the points I need for the Yarnathon.

Can you tell me what the sweater name is so I can take a look on line…. I love V-neck pullover sweaters.

I was surprised to see comments about Ravelry on our newsfeed in Australia

I deleted my Ravelry account this last Thursday (2 days ago). For fun, I will tell you that my member/follower number was 209,323 on November 6, 2008. (I think Judy subscribed before me) Ravelry now has 8 million followers. I really enjoyed my close-to-eleven years as a member of Ravelry and I was on their website daily to participate in groups, buy yarn (ha! didn’t we all!), and see what was going on. I loved it – we all did. I also feel differently about Ravelry now in that I really don’t care about what I used to do on the site and I don’t miss it – that surprised me. Maybe it simplified my life in some way. Like Judy (my mentor), I am still knitting and buying yarn, I am just getting what I want from other sites. Happily, life goes on! And so we continue to knit.

I think there are a lot of us who feel that way. I have found new dyers and have already made a couple of orders. Less time on R means more time knitting, right?
Like you, I wondered if I would miss it. Now, it makes me sat to even have to go there to finish downloading my patterns.

I’ve been experiencing the same feelings about my knitting. For me it will take awhile to process the whole thing. Right now I’m looking at projects that I can’t enjoy knitting because specific pattern designers and supply businesses have come out in support of Ravelry’s policy…which means in their eyes I’m an awful person. It probably shouldn’t bother me, but it does. So I will choose other knitting projects to work on for now. It isn’t like I don’t have enough in my stash to choose from!
I do appreciate having a place to visit to read about projects, family, pets…all without the drama. Thank you for that!

I think it bothers all of us who feel we have been unfairly accused of something we are not. I’ve gone from being hurt, to being angry to just wanting to never see that website again. I still have patterns to download and I should have been done by now but even saving the patterns from some of the designers who have had such hateful and hurtful things to say . . I have no desire to wade through it all but I know if I delete my account without saving my patterns, I’ll be sorry later.
Thank you for writing and I assure you, I never mean to say anything hurtful here. Some, maybe all, will disagree with me sometime or maybe all the time; I may disagree with you but I hope we’are always “human” enough to be kind. I am pretty sure I didn’t get the drama gene.

I must admit that up until now my knitting has been scarves, shawls, wraps and a few pairs of socks. I’m thinking of starting a sweater . Something fairly simple but i worry that it won’t fit in the end. I know that’s the purpose of the swatch. When you do your swatch, I assume you need to order enough more yarn to allow for the swatch, correct? Just curious, what do you do with all those swatches? ??

I have not checked Ravelry out for the comments. I guess I just never got into any of the blogs or comments on there so I have nothing to lose. I do get free patterns and I don’t think that is helping them any. I don’t think anyone is wrong to not want to be on there. That is what is great about our country. Everyone can have their own opinions, but no one should try to push their opinions off on you or me. We are all individuals. Love you just as you are!

The drift is a great color! Or not color, as the case may be. I can just see it with jeans. =)

I was one of the original site testers at Ravelry & I have an “I swatched Ravelry” shirt I received for my help. I never had much to do with the social aspect of the site, I just used it to organize my own stuff & look for patterns. Sorry to hear it’s gotten political…
On a good note, I used that yarn years ago and it holds up great, it’s really soft! I made some washcloths out of it so they’ve been abused and they’re still in the rotation.

I’ve been a member of Ravelry since 2007 and was a great fan until recently. It was such a wonderful site for organizing one’s stash, projects, etc. What a disappointment! I’ll be purchasing my patterns and spending my time elsewhere. I have to admit when I first heard about the craziness going on there, I questioned whether or not it was April Fool’s Day.
