My husband is as fickle as I am! We had just about decided it was time to leave Texas. We’ve looked at houses online for hours on end . . really, days on end. Now, we’ve about talked ourselves into staying.
For years, I begged for guinea fowl. Vince said NO. He thought I was lucky to have talked him into getting chickens.
Today when we were talking and both saying we kinda aren’t ready to leave Texas, Vince said “Let’s get some guinea fowl!” We’ve had a few ticks this year, which we’ve never had before and they’re supposed to help rid the yard of ticks. They’re not real easy to find around here but Vince, with his excellent sleuthing skills, found some that will be available in a few weeks and has asked for six of them.
The guy he was talking to also has peacocks and I think he’s talked Vince into getting a couple of peacocks when he has them available. My dad had peacocks and guineas when I was a kid so I’m happy as can be about this. I’m kinda wondering what’s come over him. Maybe before he gets out of this mood, he’ll agree to let me get goats and a pig!
The orchard hasn’t been producing fruit – not a single piece of fruit this year due to the late freeze, so Vince said “Heck, we’ve got the nice fence, we might as well get more critters!” What’s a few more mouths to feed?
It’s about to get fun, folks! 🙂

I LOVE Guinea Fowl. Great watch “dogs” and tick eaters.

No ticks in Texas? I will be happy to supply your Guineas with all they need!!!!! We didn’t have much snow in southern NH this past winter so the biting/sucking critters are prolific this Spring and into Summer. The black flies are as large as Ptyradactals.

I love it!! You have found your little place in heaven right here and can’t find anything you like better! If your peacock loses feathers, I would love to have some! I have always thought I would like to paint them!! Guineas are so fun to watch! They just do their own things. They also love the grasshoppers!!

You had a late freeze but we’ve been inundated with rain for the past three years here. No nice spring showers – we get gully-washers! I’m so tired of the rain… we been to both ends of the state in the past month and the Ohio River and the Susquehanna River are both really high now. Our driveway, which runs down from the road, is so full of huge ruts that it’s difficult getting down to the house, and once you get down to the bottom, it’s 3-4″ thick with mud… no fun! I’m tired of the downpours, but I’d love to try those guinea hens!! 🙂

Hey Judy. It’s been a while. After having a peahen ? just show up one day after a storm 2 years ago, we ended up getting her some companions. Unfortunately after one of those horrible storms several months ago we lost them all. Now we have four more. They’re doing great. One is sitting on 6 eggs to hatch soon. Looking forward. I was able to talk them out of guineas. Lol. A bit too loud and annoying for me this close to the house. Good luck. If the deal fails through, let me know. We also have a bunch of turkeys coming up for sale in a week or so. Royal Palm and Red Bourbon mix. Quite beautiful.

This all sounds interesting. What will the peacocks do? I know they make all kinds of noises but do they do eggs to eat? Texas vs Move.. Well I just bet the move wins out because of that darling granddaughter. But we will see. You’ve just got to LOve Texas now that you’ve been here and seen what we have to offer. SPACE right?
