Kindergarten is over. Nicole had asked me to take a picture of Addie this morning for her last day of school. I asked Addie to remind me. We both forgot. I told her I would take her to McDonald’s for breakfast this morning and we were pulling in when Nicole called to remind me so we took the last day of school picture at McDonald’s. She wasn’t real happy about having her picture made inside McDonald’s.
When we picked her up, she was sad and on the verge of tears. She did not want school to end. I told Nicole she should video that statement and play it for her when she’s in middle school and not wanting to go to school.
I told her tomorrow she and I can sleep late! Not sure which one of us is more excited about that! I plan to take her to get donuts if the weather isn’t bad in the morning but I’m not mentioning it because if I say it, then it HAS to happen . . hail, tornado, torrential rain “because YOU said we were doing it!”
Carolyn says
Revise your statement…..”We will go IF the weather isn’t bad like today”. At some point she must learn there are times to go and times not to go. A perfect life lesson.
Judy Laquidara says
Not worth it. I’m the grandma and I’m not here enough to teach those lessons. I know how bullheaded she is. If I say “IF” the weather isn’t bad, then she will swear the weather isn’t bad, even if the tornado sirens are going off. The donut shop runs out of donuts early . . probably by 10, and Addie will still be hounding me to go, even if it’s 3 p.m. when the weather clears up. This one, for me, comes under the heading of “choose your battles”. If the weather is good in the morning, I’ll say “Let’s go get donuts!” If not, we’ll have cereal and there will be no arguments.

Sounds good to me! Quite reasonable, as you understand this girl so well!

ROFLOL!! I almost spit out my coffee! As one Nana to another, I’m with you! Not that Carolyn didn’t have a great suggestion cuz it was, and I totally agree. But circumstances have to be considered too, and it’s way different when you see her for such short periods only occasionally. We’ve been down here (NC) almost two years around the grands, now 6+, 4+, and not quite 3, and I’m only recently getting comfortable being an enforcer. So yes! Pick your battles! Still laughing though…
Eileen Wheeldon Eisner says
I pick my battles too!! Grannies don’t do the tough stuff. ;>p

How cute! I like the idea of the video!! Sent you an email about Bob and Ann. Sad news. I hope you and Addie enjoy your donuts! So glad the tornado missed you all!!

My cousin posted a comparison of the photo from the first day of kindergarten and the last day today. It was amazing how much more grown up she looks in the second photo. They change a lot in just 9 months!

I thought she loved going to McDonald’s so why would she be unhappy to have the picture there? She can remember the year her grandma was there on the last day of school with her! She still looks cute, even slightly grumpy. So what did you do this afternoon?
Judy Laquidara says
She does love McDonald’s . . she was just being a grumpy little girl.
That was yesterday . . I don’t even remember what we did! We did take her to get a snowcone since the snowcone stand is open.
