Today has been quite a busy day. We went to town this morning. We needed to go early and be back before the mail came because the new phone for me and new SIM card for Vince was being delivered.
We went to Walmart, Aldi, United, dropped off eggs, went by the bank, went by the insurance office to sign the letter to cancel my Blue Cross insurance at the end of this month (YAY!).
Came home, phone stuff got delivered. Got that all set up and it works great.
While we were at the bank to order new checks, the guy who we use as our banker walked through. Vince and I have been having a major debate about how to go about moving. He thinks we can sell this house, buy a new house and move . . this house to new house . . one day to the next. I told him it almost never happens that way! I could see us having to move out of this house, into a rental and wait forever to find the house we want. The banker said “Your house is going to sell very quickly so I’d be prepared to move right away once you put it up for sale.” He said houses here, especially one not too far out with land, will go very fast. That helped my argument a lot . . buy a new house, then put this one up for sale.
Then Vince was talking to him about bridge loans or interim financing . . because we don’t actually have the cash sitting around to buy a second house before this one sells. If we take money out of an IRA or 401K, we have to pay taxes on it and that would increase the IRMA payment for Medicare for both of us.
Vince talked to the guy a bit more and they have a plan so we can go ahead and buy a house in the new location if we find one. When we got home from town, we checked realtor.com and there was the perfect house! Vince called the realtor and talked to her and when I’m in MO next week, Chad and I are going to drive down and see it. Hopefully we can see the house on a weekend and Nicole and Addie can go too. It’s about 4 hours from their house so there and back in one day will be a long trip. I told Vince . . if I like that house as much as I think I will, are you going to go back there and look at it with me when I get back from MO? He said yes but honestly, I think it will sell before then. That will be at least three weeks from now and houses in that area are selling quickly too.
Vince has said a couple of times . . maybe we should just buy it. Without seeing it? No! I suppose stranger things have happened but that’s not happening with us.
The house only has 5 acres and that’s a bit of a drawback for me. I don’t think you can see any other houses because there are lots of trees in the area but there are houses – probably three or four off in the distance. It has a basement. It has a shop (air conditioned and heated!) for Vince. I can have chickens. It has more than two bathrooms which is a huge plus! It has a well. Another drawback – a glass top stove. The realtor is going to have someone look at it to see how hard it would be to run a gas line to the stove. It has a metal roof, which is another thing we wanted. Oh . . the best part – it has an amazing outdoor kitchen. Another good thing – they’re leaving what looks to be a fairly new washer/dryer and it’s a regular, old style top load machine. I will never own another front load machine.
If I had to guess, I’d say the chances of us actually getting this house are less than 5% – just too much has to happen too quickly and with me going to MO in a few days . . and I’m thinking the day I get back from MO, I’m not going to want to get back in the car and drive right back that direction. Vince said “What’s more important . . a perfect house or Addie’s play?” Did he really need to ask? I’m going to Addie’s play.
Somehow, during all that, I made a double batch of dog food. Rita has to eat while I’m gone!
So, now you know what I’ve been doing all day! Now I plan to knit.

Can Vince meet you there while you are staying at Chad’s? Might be worth it if the house turns out to be perfect. We just moved two months ago from a house we lived at for 31 years. It was a tough move as we are not in our 20’s any longer. Told my husband, we had better love it as I am never moving again.

If you love the house, maybe walk Vince through it on a Skype video call.

If it it’s meant to be, it will happen. I would say you had a very exciting day!

I wish the best for you. If this is it, it will happen, and if it isn’t, then something better will be along at the right time.

You could also use Duo on your phone instead of skype. It’s much easier to sign up for and use from your phonel It would really be nice if Vince could meet you there and walk through it if you feel it is worth it….

I really hate to see you leave, but I completely understand. You will be missed. Sounds like this is the perfect house for you!

We bought a house without going to see it. Bought it based on photos on the internet and that was before the days of Zillow, etc. that show tons of pictures. We mainly wanted the land, so the house didn’t matter that much, but it was a bit scary. We were overseas and could not get back to look at it before someone put an offer in on it. It also wasn’t super pricey, so that helped.
