No place is perfect in every way and even though Vince will not consider moving back to MO, there are things about the area that I just love.
There are quite a few Amish in this area. There were a few couples we got to know a bit when we lived here. Their dedication and commitment to their lifestyle is one of the things that I admire.
Yesterday, it was chilly and raining. That would have been the day I said “Honey! We are buying a car!” That says a lot about me, right? 🙂
There’s hardly a day you can go out around here that you don’t see a horse and buggy somewhere. I do miss seeing that and the reminder of a simple life. I can say I want a more simple life but I’m always quick to buy the next gadget and bring more electronics into my life.
Last night in bed, for a few minutes, I was thinking of all the “stuff” we have and most of it is clutter and more stuff to have to move and find a place to store. I want a more simple, less cluttered life . . til I see something else I want!

My father in law lives around a big Amish community. He loves to take ice cream to the kids in the summer! They rarely get ice cream so it is a huge treat for them. He has previously hired some of the young boys between 10 and 12 to help with yard work. They work so hard and love eating at his house! Grilled burgers and potato chips are a hit! They don’t like the air conditioning though as it’s too cold!

I’ve always loved the Amish areas around our state, (PA) including one that’s only 40 minutes north of us. Tomorrow we’ll be in the center of the state and we’ll make a trip to “Big Valley ” that has a lot of Amish!! When we’d make the trip years ago, the kids knew we were getting close when we passed the farm with all the “Belted Gallway” cattle. (The kids knew them as ‘Oreo Cookie Cows – black on the front and back ends and a large ring of white around the middle. ) There are at least 2-3 quilt shops there, and if you know the Amish, the prices are so much less than at other quilt shops. The last time I was there , prices at regular shops were were in the $10-11 range and at these Amish-run shops it was $6-8 per yard for the same fabric!! I can hardly wait!!! ???

I agree with you. I admire these people. Several years ago there were several of them around Stephenville. Don’t know if they still are or not. Plus everything they make is top notch, and the best quality!

I love seeing them in Pennsylvania and Ohio when I drive through there. Paul and I stayed in a great RV park outside of Intercourse, PA, which had some of the best quilts and wood products I’ve ever seen anywhere. I was happy to be able to buy just one small quilt.
